224 Installation
The installation of the ONT224 involves the following steps:
- Installation of the mounting bracket onto the ONT224.
- Installation of one or more power supplies into the unit.
- Installation of the ONT into the rack.
- Plugging in the fiber from the splitter.
- Powering up the Unit.
- Adding the ONT to the OLT.
- Add the mounting bracket to both sides of the ONT224 using the four supplied screws.

- Mount the ONT224 onto a standard 19" rack using standard rack screws that are not supplied.
- Place the power supply into the unit.

- Engage the latch to allow the power supply to be fully seated.

- Plug in the secondary power supply if it is being used. A secondary supply is recommended to ensure that in the event of a power supply failure or overcurrent that trips the breaker, the unit will continue to operate. The power supplies are redundant and load sharing.
The unit will only alarm the secondary power supply if one has been placed into the unit and powered up. If only one power supply is ever detected, it will only alarm that power supply.
- Plug in the power cables to the unit and power up the unit. The power LED on the front of the unit should go green. If the Power LED turns red (and there is not a missing power supply that was previously plugged in), the power supply likely needs replacement. Contact Tellabs TAC for units that need to be RMA'ed.
- Plug in the PON fiber coming from the splitter to the SC/APC receptacle on the right front side of the unit. Always clean the fiber prior to insertion, utilizing a fiber cleaner to ensure good error performance of the fiber optic link. PON Protection is recommended for any ONT224 given the number of users/ports that are present on the unit. Please consult the OLAN PON Protection for information on this topic.

- As detailed in the next step, "Adding ONT to EMS", add the ONT224 to the EMS, and it should now be operational. Consult the LED information in the Description section for specific LED behavior. Once added, the PON LED should be green.
