Associating VLANs with Interfaces

A management VLAN is chosen during turnup (by default, it’s 4093). All the other VLANs must be associated with the Uplink interfaces, Linear Interfaces (Customer Edge Port CEP and Customer Network Port CNP types), and internal Local Provider Edge (LPE) Interfaces in Panorama PON. These associations determine what interfaces carry which VLANs. All other interfaces learn their associated VLANs from Uplink interfaces. Using VLAN Assignment Tab

The VLAN Assignment tab in the Switching view provides the configuration and VLAN association on the uplink interfaces.

The VLAN Association table below allows the VLAN IDs defined in the VLAN Property table to be assigned to the uplink interface.

The VLAN Association table contains several attributes that allow the properties of the VLAN that are defined on that specific interface, such as Start, End, Count, Interface, IGMP proxy Enable/Disable, and VLAN Description. A VLAN can be assigned to more than one uplink interface allowing redundant path into the network that is configured. Refer to Table below  for the field descriptions.

Information Note: Not all fields appear unless the Bridge Type set for the network element as found in the OLT Property > Bridge tab dialog is Provider-802.1ad.

VLAN Attribute- Field Description-
Start Starting VLAN ID in the range assigned to an interface.
End Ending VLAN ID in the range assigned to an interface.
Count System maintained count of the number of VLANs in the range.
Interface

Specifies the name of the interface that the VLANs are associated with. Choose from the following:

  • NET1-NET12 - The ESU external interfaces are named "NET1" through "NET12" and one or more ESU faceplate ports are assigned to the interface.
  • LPE Local Provider Edge - The "LPE" interfaces of the system essentially provide the internal interfaces between the S-VLAN component and the C-VLAN components. Use an LPE interface entry to associate an S-VLAN with a C-VLAN or a range of C-VLANs to support 802.1Q-in-Q.
  • CNP Customer Network Port - This interface is used to provide an Ethernet transport service to a customer’s system/network from the ESUx GbE port(s). CNP allows a stacked tag service for this customer interface.
  • CEP Customer Edge Port - This interface is also used to provide an Ethernet transport service to a customer’s system/network from the ESUx GbE port(s). CEP is a single tag interface that allows VLAN tag translation.
IGMP Proxy Defines whether the IGMP proxy should be enabled on the interface. It is assumed that the Network Interface that has the IGMP proxy enabled is the Network Interface where the originator of the IGMP query is found. It is allowed to enable the IGMP Proxy on multiple interfaces when redundant paths are defined.
Description Free form user-defined field to name or describe this uplink interface. Since a VLAN can appear on more than one interface it can be useful for defining where each path terminates.

 

To access and use the VLAN Association table, follow these procedures:

  1. In the Application View Bar, click the Switching () icon.
  2. In the Common Tree, select the OLT.
  3. From the Switching view, select the VLAN Assignment tab. The Network Interface - VLAN Association dialog displays existing VLAN associations.
  4. Click Add a Row or use the () icon.
  5. Enter Start and End VLAN values. Possible values are 2-4094. Reserved VLANs (4000-4007, 4011 and 4012) cannot be used. A single VLAN can be entered in both Start and End, or a range can be created. It is not necessary to account for all VLANs, but those specified in the cross-connections must be associated here. If IGMP Proxy mode needs to be set differently for different VLANs (for detailed information, refer to Step 8), enter those VLANs on different rows.
  6. Select the Interface to associate the VLANs with. Refer to Table above for Interface options.
  7. Check or uncheck (Enable/Disable) the IGMP Proxy behavior.

    The system supports Full Bridging behavior and allows interface-to-interface, subscriber-to-interface, or interface-to-subscriber communication based upon station addresses.
    Information Note: Select all of the uplinks that can supply the source of the multicast channel as the one "IGMP Proxy" Enabled. If multiple interfaces are selected with IGMP Proxy Enabled, only one is selected as the current operation source based upon the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) selection of the root path.
  8. Do one of the following to Enable IGMP Proxy on up to 32 VLANs. 
  • For an uplink interface, if the VLANs on this row are for Service Type IPTV, or Bridged+IPTV, select the IGMP Proxy value Enabled. This setting enables forwarding multicast based on IGMP channel changes. Otherwise, accept the default Disabled.
  • For a Customer downlink, or 11xx Transport interface, to pass traffic transparently (this is the most common scenario), accept the Disabled default for IGMP Proxy. To replicate multicast traffic to the downlink, select Enabled.
  1. Enter the Service Provider VLAN, SP VLAN (for OLT’s with Provider-802.1ad Bridge Type enabled only).
  2. Choose the appropriate Tag Style (for OLTs with Provider-802.1ad Bridge Type enabled only) option for the VLAN.
  3. Enter a Description for this VLAN range.
    Information Note: If assigning the management VLAN to additional uplinks, the description must be "MGMT".
  1. To associate more VLANs with this interface (or another one), click Add a Row again or use the () icon and repeat the process.
  2. To copy more VLANs, select a row and right-click to display the Copy Row(s) pop-up. The Input pop up displays that prompts how many rows of VLANs to paste. Click the Past Rows(s) button.
  3. Enter the number of rows and click the OK button.
  4. To delete one or more populated rows, select each row and click the Delete () icon.
  5. Delete certain VLANs from the table using the Delete Specify VLANs () icon. The Input dialog displays to remove specific VLANs. Repeat this step for multiple uplink interfaces.


     
  6. Enter the VLAN number and the OK button. or click the Cancel button to close the Input dialog.
  7. A confirmation message displays. Click the OK button to close.
  8. When finished, click the Apply button. Use the Refresh button to update the VLAN association entries.
