Video
The ONT142R supports video content delivered in two ways:
- RF Video via optical overlay on 1550 nm wavelength
- Multicast Video via IPTV
When multicast technology is used to deliver video content through the data channel, the ONT142R supports the dedicated multicast that is accessible to all ONTs, so that only one copy of the multicast IP Video is sent downstream. This significantly improves bandwidth efficiency.
In addition, the ONT142R supports an Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping function to prune sending of multicast to PONs where there is no one watching that channel. The ONT supports two IGMP-enabled multicast VLANs per ONT and up to 48 multicast streams per ONT. Multicast Quality of Service (QoS) is supported via the 802.1p bits.
The ONT142R supports the following RF Video features:
- One F-connector coaxial interface
- Compliant to ITU-T G.984 standards.
- AM-VSB Cable Video Distribution @ 1550 nm received optical power levels, 0 dBm to -8 dBm
- Downstream, 1550 nm (RF Video)
- Supports 54-870 MHz CATV AM-VSB service
Security
Tellabs has implemented unique advanced security features to protect enterprise networks. The ONT142R supports security across the optical distribution network and end-to-end over the OLAN system, such as encryption of traffic on the PON using the Advanced Encryption Standard AES-128 and Access Control Lists (ACL) at Layer 2 through 4 levels.
The ONT provides for advanced dynamic assignment of services to a port via the use of Network Access Control (NAC) with fall back to a Guest VLAN. The ONT supports IEEE 802.1x port-based authentication and MAB. This prevents unauthorized access to ports and offers RADIUS authentication for users and distribution of policy to end users based on their login.
ONT142R Connectors
The back edge of the ONT142R has 10 connectors.

- PWR - DC power input. This is a standard 1.7-mm DC power jack, with center positive.
- POTS1, POTS2 - Plain Old Telephone Service ports (two). POTS is the standard copper analog voice line found in most homes and small businesses. These are standard RJ11 analog telephone jacks.
- ETH1 - ETH4 - Gigabit Ethernet ports (four) supporting Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices. These are standard RJ45 Ethernet port jacks.
- CATV - RF Video output. This is a standard F-type coaxial cable connector.
- Optical Connector (unlabeled, green, behind a cover) - PON optical port for connecting this ONT to the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) upstream via a fiber-optic cable. This is a standard SC/APC-type connector for Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) cable. The connector is protected by a small plastic cover located at the right-hand corner of the rear panel (when viewed from the rear).
ONT142R Indicators
The top of the ONT142R has 10 LED indicators near the front edge:

- Power - shows status of the DC power input
- ETH1 - ETH4 - shows the status of the four Gigabit Ethernet ports
- VoIP - shows the status of the VoIP lines
- POTS1, POTS2 - shows the status of the POTS lines
- PON - shows the status of the Passive Optical Network (PON)
NT142R Manual Controls and Switches
The ONT142R has only one user-operable control:
- Reset - This pushbutton resets the ONT
The Reset pushbutton is accessible through a small hole on the right-hand side of the unit (when viewed from the front).
