Devices

The Devices view provides a virtual view of the selected Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs). Actual card types, provisioning of cards and shelves, properties of installed cards, and the current alarm status for individual cards can all be easily viewed.

The device display area is divided into four sections.

  • Device Common Tree - Displays a list of available OLTs and connected ONTs.
  • Device Properties - Displays the properties of the selected OLT or installed card.
  • Menu Bar - Menu bar displays options for Alarms, PON Ports, ONTs, UNI Ports, Configurations, Metrics, Unexpected ONTs, Switching, and Protocols.
    • There is a different options menu on each level of the Device Common tree.
  • Device Parameters - Displays related parameters for the selected device (as applicable) from the selected menu bar.

Device Common tree

The Device Common Tree lists the managed OLT(s) in the network and provisioned equipment, displayed in a tree view format under the Network node. Use the Common Tree to navigate through the configured OLT(s) and perform Panorama PON functions in the Device Parameter window.

Navigating the Common Tree

  1. To view the OLTs configured on the server, select an OLT from the dropdown list and double-click. The configured OLTs are listed beneath the selection in a Windows directory tree where each level is indented from the previous level.
  2. To view the Slot Type of a specific OLT, double-click the ONT to display the Menu Bar.
  3. To view the PON Card Types provisioned and installed in the OLT, double-click the PON to display the Menu Bar.
  4. To view the PON Ports on a specific PON card, double-click the PON to display the Menu Bar.
  5. To view the Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), double-click on ONT to display the Menu Bar.
  6. To view the ONTs UNI Ports, double-click the ONT UNI Port to display the Menu Bar.
  7. To collapse the common tree, double-click the item, to collapse to the selected level.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar gives access to the Forwarding Database, which is used primarily as a storage database that records the bindings of a port’s IP address and the matching device’s unique MAC address learned by the system.

The Forwarding Database stores the locations of device(s) using the IP/ MAC address binding. Considering this association, the user can easily locate a defective or errant device (wherever attacks originate), anywhere on the network using the information in the Forwarding Database.

The purpose of the Forwarding Database table is twofold:

  1. To locate a specific device that exists on the network and
  2. To repair or remove a compromised device after locating it, thereby preventing any further snooping or unwanted attacks on the switch.

Data generated from the Forwarding Database can be saved as a CSV file and then exported to an Excel spreadsheet or a database program.

The following querying capabilities of the Menu Bar display a view of the PON configurations at different levels of the Device Common Tree.
