EMS Recovery Best Practices
Successful Disaster recovery on the Panorama PON EMS application requires that best practices be followed to ensure you are prepared in the event of catastrophic failure of the EMS.
- EMS Backups MUST be performed on a regular basis
- OLT Backups MUST be performed on a regular basis
- All backups MUST be replicated to offsite storage
- Frequency of backups should be governed by the importance of the system. Mission critical systems must be backed up on a much more frequent basis to ensure all changes are captured.
- Weekly backups are recommended for all systems.
- Daily backups are recommended for mission critical systems or those with frequent configuration changes.
EMS Backup Procedures are documented here.
OLT Backup Procedures are documented here. Please note that, by default, the OLT is backed up weekly.
Without these backups, in many cases the system cannot be recovered. In some select use cases where the OLT does not have voice lines, it may be possible to recover using the OLT databases, but this is not guaranteed and the only codified mechanism for disaster recovery is having a recent backup.
Ensure your backups are going to offsite storage. In many disaster use cases if the backups are stored onsite, you may lose both the EMS computer and all backups.
