Probable Cause SNMP/TL1 Service Affecting Troubleshooting Procedure
MISC-1 to  MISC-16
MISC-7
No Miscellaneous 1 through 16

Description

Environmental alarm on the Alarm Maintenance Unit (AMU) at port 1 through port 16.

MISC or miscellaneous alarms, indicate an external alarm contact closure that is used to alert of failures from external equipment. The MISC-7 alarm is typically wired to the Tellabs 1150 MDS Fan Assembly (refer to MISC-7). MISC alarms can be used for any type of dry relay contact alarm reporting from external hardware.

The fan assembly is essential for cooling the rack and must be operational for proper operation of the Tellabs 1150 equipment. Any fan alarm on the MDS shelf should be treated as a high priority repair.

The EMS defines these by default to match the standard cabinet layout. Since the alarm profiles are editable, all of the contacts should have meaningful names that should lead to the proper diagnosis of the fault. The default definitions are shown below:

Information Note: MISC-1 to MISC-16 have assigned descriptions but MISC-7 is the Tellabs functioning MISC alarm.

Other alarms are active on the1134 series OLTs.  The following PON Env Alarm profile is for reference only. It is not currently available in the current EMS versions.

Information Note: The alarms are not enabled by default. An Alarm Profile must be selected for alarms to be enabled.

Trouble Clearing

The probable causes of this alarm are:

Tellabs 1150 MDS Fan Failure: One cause of MISC-7 is that one or more of the fans on the MDS Fan assembly has failed. Please note that in some configurations where redundancy is required, the MDS shelf is deployed with two fan shelves, one above and one below the MDS shelf. In this configuration, the alarm contacts are daisy-chained together. Examine both fan shelves for the failed unit. Additionally, each fan shelf has an LED that indicates the fan shelf status.

  • Examine the shelf. If the Alarm LED is Red, the fan shelf should be replaced.
  • Replace the MDS Fan Shelf.

Tellabs 1150 MDS Fan Shelf not Powered: One possible cause of the MISC-7 alarm is that power has been lost to the MDS fan shelf. Ensure the Fan Shelf STAT LED is green indicating the shelf is powered. If the fan shelf STAT LED is not green.

  • Verify that the Shelf Power Connector J1 is connected.
  • Using a multi-meter, verify that the Shelf Power Connector J1 has -48 VDC available to the fan shelf.
