Description
This document provides procedures to install the Tellabs 1150 Optical Line Terminal (OLTs) and required components in standard 23-in (58.4cm) and 19-in (48.3cm) racks.
The Tellabs 1100 OLT system centers around the 23-in (58.4cm) Tellabs 1150 MDS5 OLT (see Figure 1) and/or the 19-in (48.3cm) Tellabs 1150E (MDS7) OLT (see Figure 2).

Typical rack installations are shown in Figure 3.

Tellabs 1150 (MDS5) Shelf
The MDS5 supports:
| Note: he MDS5 does not support a mix of ESU11s and ESU2s. Whichever ESU type is installed in the "A" slot must also be installed in the "B" slot. |
- 2 Ethernet Switch Unit (ESU) slots which can accommodate two ESU11s or two ESU2s.
- 2 Timing Distribution Unit (TDU1) slots
- 1 Alarm Maintenance Unit (AMU1) slot
- 16 Input/Output (I/O) slots
Tellabs 1150E (MDS7) Shelf
The MDS7 supports:
| Note 1: Shelf extensions are required if the MDS7 shelf, and accompanying fans trays, are to be installed in a 23-in rack and must be ordered separately. |
| Note 2: The MDS7 does not support a mix of ESU11s and ESU2s. Whichever ESU type is installed in the "A" slot must also be installed in the "B" slot. |
- 2 Ethernet Switch Unit (ESU) slots which can accommodate two ESU11s or two ESU2s.
- 14 Input/Output (I/O) slots
DC Rectifier Shelf
A DC Rectifier Shelf is available in a 19-in (48.3cm) configuration, which supports up to three DC rectifier modules.
DC rectifier modules are available in several different amperage ratings, to provide the appropriate amount of power to support the installed services.
ESU2 LED Indicators
- STAT - Displays operational status of the system.
- ACT - Displays which of the redundant ESU cards are the Active Unit.
- 10G XFP 1-2 Link/Activity - Shows port Link and Activity.
- 10G XFP 1-2 Low Signal - Indicates the received Laser signal is below the LOS threshold.
- 1G SFP Link/Activity - Displays port Link and Activity.
- 1G SFP Low Signal - Indicates the received Laser signal is below the LOS threshold.
ESU2 LED Behavior
| Green Solid | When the 10G XFP 1-2 Link LED indication is Green Solid, it indicates that the port is linked up, and no data is passing. | ||
|
|
Green Blink | When the 10G XFP 1-2 Link LED indication is Green Blink, it indicates that the port is linked up and passing data.
| Dark (Off) | When the 10G XFP 1-2 Link LED indication is Dark (Off), it indicates that the port is unconfigured or the port has failed. | ||
| 10G XFP 1-2 Low Signal - Indicates the power status of the PON |
Dark (Off) |
When the 10G XFP 1-2 Low Signal LED indication is Dark (Off), indicates that a received laser signal is above the LOS threshold or port is unconfigured.
| Amber Solid | When the 1G SFP Low Signal LED indication is Amber Solid, it indicates that the Received Laser Signal is below the LOS threshold. | ||
| 1G SFP Link /Activity - Indicates the optical status of the PON | Green Solid | When the 1G SFP Link LED indication is Green Solid, it indicates that the port is linked up, and no data is passing. | |
|
|
Green Blink | When the 1G SFP Link LED indication is Green Blind, it indicates that the port is linked up and is passing data.
| Dark (Off) | When the 1G SFP Link LED indication is Dark (Off), indicates that the port is unconfigured or failed. | ||
| 1G SFP Low Signal - Indicates the power status of the PON |
Dark (Off) | When the 1G SFP Low Signal LED indication is Dark (Off), indicates that a Received Laser signal is above the LOS threshold or port is unconfigured.
| Amber Solid | When the 1G SFP Low Signal LED indication is Amber Solid, it indicates that the Received Laser Signal is below the LOS threshold. |
