ONT VoIP

Use the following procedures to configure Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) parameters for the selected ONT that uses Voice over IP.

Soft Switch

  1. Click the VoIP tab. The VoIP dialog is displayed. The screen opens as a default to Soft Switch.

  2. During the Add NE process, Panorama PON provides three options for the assignment of SIP host configurations for VoIP, as well as the opportunity to create several other default values (for detailed information, see table below). The option chosen during Add ONT appears in Host Configuration Type:

    • If AUTO, Panorama PON automatically assigns the SIP host configuration information for Voice Gateway.
    • If MANUAL, SIP host properties for ONT voice services must be configured manually.

    • If DHCP, Panorama PON retrieves this information from the TConfig server via the DHCP server.
  3. Once an ONT is configured for Soft Switch and is operationally enabled, it obtains an IP address, network mask, and gateway router address from the DHCP server. It then downloads the SIP/VoIP profile for the voice line from the Tellabs Configuration Server. (This profile is managed by the Tellabs Configuration Server and contains the basic call and call feature configurations for the subscriber.) After the ONT successfully retrieves the voice line profile, the SIP user agent registers with the softswitch.

  4. To update the ONT session initiation protocol (SIP) host configuration, update the fields shown on the VoIP tab, as described in the table: VoIP Tab – Soft Switch Personality below.

    Field

    Description

    ONx Voice Personality

Note: To provision TConfig server information for an ONT, refer to “Provisioning the Tellabs  Configuration Server”.

Defines the voice mode for all ports on the ONT (Voice Gateway or Soft Switch). If using the Tellabs Configuration Server (TConfig) application to manage SIP provisioning, select Soft Switch.

    IP Host Configuration

The DHCP IP address assigned to this component.

Note: This IP address must be unique per NE. If this IP address matches an IP address used for another card or an IP address in the VoIP IP address pool for this ONT, Panorama PON displays an error message.
    VLAN

    VLAN ID

Specify the VLAN ID assigned for the VoIP (2-4094, avoid internally reserved VLANS 4000- 4007, 4011, and 4012).

    Voice Settings

    POTS Range Fail Wait Timer

Specify the timer value in seconds (0-360 in 10-second increments). Default is 120 seconds.

TConfig Specifications (if ONT Personality is set to Soft Switch)

If using TL1 flow-through provisioning, accept the default Device ID and Username.

    TConfig ID/Hostname

ALERT! This entry must match the value provisioned in the TConfig Server.

Defines the SIP password that is used when authenticating the profile exchange between the ONT and the Tellabs Configuration Server. Enter up to 24 ASCII characters (mixed case and case-sensitive entries are supported).

    User Name
ALERT! This entry must match the value provisioned in the TConfig Server.

Defines the unique name for the Tellabs Configuration ID or hostname associated with the ONT. This identifies the ONT when communicating with the Tellabs Configuration Server. Up to 24 ASCII characters. Defaults to <this NE’s CORBA ME ID>-<this card’s AID>. (It is recommended to accept the default.)

    Password
ALERT! This entry must match the value provisioned in the TConfig Server.

Defines the SIP user name that is used when authenticating the profile exchange between the ONT and the Tellabs Configuration Server. Up to 24 ASCII characters (mixed case and case-sensitive entries are supported). Defaults to <this NE’s CORBA ME ID>-<this card’s AID>. We recommend accepting this default.

    Equipment Settings

If TConfig Equipment Settings Profile(s) is/are configured, select the desired profile (

    Enable POTS Alarms

    Yes or No Radio buttons

    Reboot SIP Stack
ALERT! Rebooting the SIP VoIP stack is service-affecting for voice services.

Reboots the SIP/VoIP stack on the ONT.

    Refresh VoIP Profile
ALERT! Rebooting the SIP VoIP stack is service-affecting for voice services.

Available when ONT Voice Personality is Soft Switch. Triggers the ONT to request a profile update from the TConfig Server

    Show TConfig Statistics...

Displays the TConfig Polling Statistics screen.

  5. Click the Apply button to save any ONT provisioning updates.
  6. A confirmation message is displayed. Click the OK button.

Voice Gateway

  1. Click the VoIP tab. The VoIP dialog is displayed. Select Voice Gateway as the Voice Gateway Personality.

  2. During the Add ONT process, Panorama PON provides three options for the assignment of SIP host configurations for VoIP, as well as the opportunity to create several other default values (for detailed information, see table below). The option chosen during Add ONT appears in Host Configuration Type:

    • If AUTO, Panorama PON automatically assigns the SIP host configuration information to Voice Gateway.
    • If MANUAL, SIP host properties for ONT voice services must be configured manually.

    • If DHCP, Panorama PON retrieves this information from the TConfig server via the DHCP server.
  3. Once an ONT is configured for Voice Gateway and is operationally enabled, it obtains an IP address, network mask, and gateway router address from the DHCP server.

  4. To update the ONT session initiation protocol (SIP) host configuration, update the fields shown on the VoIP tab, as described in the table:VoIP Tab – Voice Gateway Personality below.

    Field

    Description

Note: The values or default values of Host Configuration Type, ONT Voice Personality, and VLAN ID are determined at Add ONT. Unless Host Configuration Type is MANUAL, this is also true for IP Address, Network Mask, and Gateway IP.

    ONT Voice Personality

Defines the voice mode for all ports on the ONT (Voice Gateway or Soft Switch). If using the Tellabs Configuration Server (TConfig) application to manage SIP provisioning, select Soft Switch.

    IP Host Configuration

If Host Configuration Type is MANUAL, enter an IP Address, Network Mask, and Gateway IP.

    IP Address

The IP address assigned to this component.

    Network Mask

The network mask address assigned to this component.

    Gateway IP

The gateway IP address assigned to this component.

    VLAN

    VLAN ID

Specify the VLAN ID assigned for the Voice Gateway (2-4094, but avoid reserved VLANs)

    Voice Settings

    POTS Range Fail Wait Timer

Specify the timer value in seconds (0-360 in 10 second increments). Default is 120 seconds.

    VLAN ID

ALERT! Please see the following VLAN ID requirements:
    • All ONTs for one NE must use the same VLAN ID.
    • This entry cannot be a VLAN that is being used as a network VLAN for an ISP1:1 data cross-connection.

Network VLAN identifier the card uses to communicate with the TConfig server. Values range from 2 through 4094, with 10 VLANs reserved for internal use. Do not use VLANs 4000-4007, 4011 and 4012, as these are reserved for internal use by the Tellabs 1100 Series system.

  5. Click the Apply button to save any ONT provisioning updates.
  6. A confirmation message is displayed. Click the OK button.
