Terminology
Primary ESU - In an OLT with redundant ESUs (two hardware cards protecting each other), the primary ESU (ESUA) is just terminology used to accurately distinguish the two ESUs. The Primary is the unit on the left within the shelf. This designation never changes.
Secondary ESU - The Secondary ESU (ESUB) is on the right.
Active ESU - In an OLT with redundant ESUs, this is the ESU currently managing the system. This state changes over time.
Standby ESU - In an OLT with redundant ESUs, this is the ESU that is waiting to take over OLT management in the event of a failure of the Active unit. The Standby ESU is a hot standby and all configuration and state are present on the unit.
Backup - Making a copy of the database for later recovery in the event of a failure.
Restore - Using a Backup to restore the system to a previous state.
Golden Card - Hardware copy of the software and database, currently in use, to be used for a rapid rollback in the case of an upgrade failure.
