OLT Installation
Unpacking and Checking the OLT2
The Tellabs OLT2 and related accessories to be installed may arrive in a single shipping box, or in multiple boxes. When unpacking the boxes, check each item against the installation work order for proper quantities and for shipping damage.
- If a shortage or damage is found, contact the Tellabs Technical Assistance Center (TAC) immediately.
- If all items are accounted for and in good condition, installation can proceed.
Installing the OLT2
Installing the Tellabs OLT2 consists of the following steps.
- The physical installation:
- Mounting the OLT2 to a wall, or some other surface
- Mounting the OLT2 in a rack mount
- Connecting the OLT2 to DC power:
- AC adapter at the installation location
- Remote bulk DC power supply cable
Physical Installation
Desktop Mount
Attach the supplied rubber feet to the dimpled positions on the bottom of the OLT.
| Note: the OLT2 is delivered with the rack mounting brackets installed. They can be removed for a desktop mount. |
Mounted to a Wall
The OLT2 can be attached to a wall, or to some other surface using a Wall Mounting Bracket and screws.
| Note: Make sure that the owner of the building or the owner of the individual unit or furniture is aware that holes will be drilled and screws and/or wall anchors will be used to mount the OLT to a wall or other surface before beginning installation. |
Before mounting the OLT2, decide on the best orientation for access and ease of use.
- Remove the rack mounting brackets from the OLT front panel and attach the brackets to the sides of the OLT.

- Place the OLT2 on the surface it will be attached to. Position the bracket so that it will hold the OLT in the desired orientation.
- Select at least two holes in the bottom of the bracket and mark the mounting surface.
- Carefully drill holes in the marked locations appropriate for the fasteners that will be used.
- Install drywall or masonry anchors in their holes if they will be used.
- Hold the OLT2 in position and secure with #10 screws through the selected holes.
- Install the fiber management guides (recommended) in a proper location on the wall surface.
- Construct and position a chassis ground cable using a #10AWG stranded wire with a Green/Yellow sheath.
- Connect the chassis ground cable to the single-hole lug on the side of the OLT2 (Phillps M3.5 6 long) and to the facilities ground. See Figure below.

- Connect the chassis ground cable to the single-hole lug on the side of the OLT2 (Phillps M3.5 6 long) and to the facilities ground. See Figure below.

Installation in Rack
Use the following instructions to install Tellabs OLT2:
- Insert the OLT2 shelf into the desired position and push it straight back until the mounting brackets are flush against the mounting rails.
- Secure the OLT2 shelf with four #12-24 screws. Inserting the two upper mounting screws first. Do not tighten the mounting screws until Step 3 has been completed.
- If good grounding cannot be achieved by installing the OLT2 in a rack, a chassis ground connection can be made using the single-hole grounding location on the side of the OLT2.
- Construct and position a chassis ground cable using a #10AWG stranded wire with a Green/Yellow sheath.
- Connect the chassis ground cable to the single-hole lug on the side of the OLT2 (Phillps M3.5 6 long), See Figure below.

- The terminating end of the chassis ground cable connection should be secured to the rack frame by using a ring connector (12-10 AWG).
- Remove the paint from a rail mounting hole adjacent to the left-hand corner of the unit and connect the frame ground to the equipment rail. The paint must be removed to ensure a good electrical connection to ground.
- Secure the shelf using two screws. Insert the first upper top mounting screws. Do not tighten the screws until step 5 has been completed.
- Insert the remaining screws into the mounting holes and tighten as required to ensure the OLT2 shelf is secure.
- Refer to Power Up the Tellabs OLT2 for details on the OLT2 power-up sequence.
