OLT Probable Cause

This section describes alarm causes, locations, and conditions for Optical LAN OLTs. The table below provides a list of OLT/NMS, EMS probable cause alarms, affected components, and a description of the alarm condition.

ONT RDI AIS Tellabs ONT RDI (Remote Defect Indication) - Generated when the GPON card receives a remote defect indication (RDI) in the upstream physical layer operations (PLO) from the ONT. Cleared when the GPON card detects that the condition has been resolved.

Either the domain name does not exist, or the TConfig server is down.

ONT requested the username/password from TConfig, but TConfig did not acknowledge the request, or TConfig did not return a profile.

LOPL-LPR (ONT BER Maintenance - Signal Degraded): Indicates a degraded signal from an ONT. Generated when the upstream bit error rate (BER) for an ONT becomes greater than or equal to the BER maintenance threshold. Cleared when the upstream BER for the ONT becomes less than the BER maintenance threshold.
Tellabs ONT LOPL-RFV-LPR (RF Video Signal Degraded) - Generated when the ONT detects that the optical signal power level is below the provisioned lower video threshold.

ONT LOPL OAML LOPL-OAML Tellabs ONT LOPL-OAML (Loss of PLOAM) - Indicates a loss of physical layer operations administration and maintenance (PLOAM) cells from the ONT. The GPON card sends a request to the ONT. Generated when three consecutive PLOAM messages are missing (in response to the GPON card request). Cleared when the GPON card receives a PLOAM message (in response to its request) and the ONT is in the operating state.

SIP DHCP Server- Incomplete Response DHCP-SRV- INCMPLTRESP Tellabs ONT DHCP server - Incomplete Response: ONT’s dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) client has acquired an incomplete IP configuration from the DHCP server. The IP configuration includes these components: IP address, subnet mask, network gateway, domain name, DNS servers, host name, and fully qualified domain name.



Note: Alarm is not generated if the DHCP server is unable to provide the host name or fully qualified domain name.

SIP DHCP server-No Response or Error Received DHCP-SRV-NORESP Tellabs ONT DHCP server - No Response or Error Received: ONT’s dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) client cannot acquire any IP configuration information from the DHCP server. The IP configuration includes these components: IP address, subnet mask, network gateway, domain name, DNS servers, host name, and fully qualified domain name.

Note: Alarm is not generated if the DHCP server is unable to provide the host name or fully qualified domain name.

LOPL-LOA (Loss of Acknowledgment) - Indicates a loss of acknowledgment from an ONT. The GPON card sends a set of downstream messages that require an upstream acknowledgment. Generated when the GPON card does not receive the required upstream acknowledgment from the ONT. Cleared when the GPON card receives the ONT acknowledgment.

ONT LOPL CPE LOPL-CPE Tellabs ONT LOPL-CPE (Channel Phase Error) - Indicates a channel phase error on an ONT. The OLT monitors the upstream drift of window for each ONT. When the OLT detects that the upstream drift of window is equal to or greater than the allowed threshold, the OLT attempts to correct the ONT transmission phase error. Alarm is generated when the ONT transmission continues to drift after the OLT has attempted to correct the problem. Alarm is cleared when the GPON card receives a transmission in the expected position following activation.

GponAlarmLossOfSignal (communications alarm) PON LOS PON-LOS GPON card PON-LOS - Indicates a loss of signal from all active ONTs on the GPON card port (i.e., the LOPL-LOS alarm is detected on all active ONTs). For example, this alarm occurs when the GPON facility fiber is unplugged from the GPON card. However, if all ONTs on the GPON port are in the pre-provisioned status, this alarm is not generated. Alarm is cleared when at least one upstream transmission is received on the GPON port.

LoplLossOfSignal (communications alarm) ONT LOPL LOS LOPL-LOS Tellabs ONT LOPL-LOS - Generated when the ONT fiber fails; indicates a loss of signal from an individual ONT. The GPON card expects an optical signal, but it has not received a valid optical signal during four sequential upstream frames. Alarm is cleared when the ONT is successfully ranged and the GPON card receives a valid optical signal.
Note: This alarm is not generated when the ONT status is pre-provisioned.

ONT LOPL LOF LOPL-LOF Tellabs ONT ONT LOPL LOF - Generated when the GPON card receives four consecutive invalid delimiters from an ONT. Cleared when the GPON card successfully receives frame delineation from the ONT and the ONT is in the operating state.
ONTlossOfMultiFrame (communications alarm) ONT LOPL LCD LOPL-LCD Tellabs ONT LOPL-LCD (Loss of Channel Delineation) - Generated when the GPON card is unable to delineate the G-PON encapsulation mode (GEM) channel from the ONT for three consecutive frames. Cleared when the GPON card successfully receives GEM channel delineation from the ONT.

EQPT PWR Tellabs ONT PowerProblem - This Alarm is signaled when the ESU detects that one of the two power alarm leads on the backplane is not within the nominal range of -56V to -42.5V. This may indicate that power is not attached to one of the backplane leads or that a rectifier or AC power supply has failed. The alarm clears when power is back within the specified nominal range.

The supported ONT type does not match the provisioned ONT type, or the ONT is ranged with an invalid (unsupported) ONT type. Cleared when the provisioned ONT type matches the ranged ONT.

SIPUA-REG-TIMEOUT Tellabs ONT SIP UA REGISTER - timeout - ONT is configured for softswitch (TConfig). SIP user agent (UA) has attempted a REGISTER procedure with the softswitch, but SIP UA has encountered a timeout condition while communicating with the SIP registrar.
ONT Startup Failure (s ilure INTSFT Tellabs ONT INTSFT (Startup Failure) - Indicates an ONT startup failure. It is generated when the ONT ranging has failed two times while the GPON card has received optical bursts from the ONT. Alarm is cleared when the ONT is successfully ranged.

Note: This alarm is not generated when the ONT status is pre-provisioned.
