OLT Turn Up

Once the OLT has been powered up, and all cards installed, the Turnup routine must be run to initialize the OLT IP address, management VLAN, and Uplink port configuration so that it will be in a state where it can be added to the Panorama PON EMS. To turnup the OLT, perform the following steps:

Log into the OLT CLI. The initial username and password for the system is: admin/tellabs

On initial login, the administrative password must be changed. The system will prompt for the current password in order to allow the change. Type tellabs at the prompt and press Enter.
Password expired, you must change your password to continue. Enter Current Password: _

The password policy settings and new password prompt are displayed. Enter a new password, in accordance with the security policy andpress Enter. Confirm the new password when prompted.

Password Policy 
- Password must:
contain at least 0 upper case letters, 0 lower case letters, 1 numbers, and 1 special characters
have no character repeated consecutively 0 times
be different from the prior password by at least 0 characters 
- Password must be a minimum of 6 characters for non Admin users. 
- Password must not exceed 12 characters. 
- Password cannot be the same as previous 8 passwords.

At the command prompt, enter the command wiz em tn rn and press Enter. This is an abbreviated form of the command:

wizard element-manager turnup run

This command executes the Turnup Wizard, which will collect the data required to perform the OLT turnup. Below is an example of the Turnup Wizard execution.

Note 1: CLI commands, parameters and options can be entered using abbreviations. The abbreviations are specified with capitalization in the help listings and context menus. For example, the wizard command is displayed in the help listing as WIZard. In this case convention indicates that the command can be invoked using either wizard or the abbreviated form wiz.

Note 2: The CLI also provides for tab completion to speed input. Usually, typing the first character of the command, parameter or option and then pressing Tab will provide command auto completion.

The wizard will prompt for all required turnup information. Valid choices for each configuration item are displayed in parentheses with each prompt. The wizard attempts to guide the user by providing a default value, shown in [brackets], at the end of each prompt. To accept the default value, press Enter. Otherwise, enter the appropriate value and press Enter. The following information will be collected by the wizard:

Number of Uplink Interfaces

Typically, it is best to configure only a single management interface during turnup. Additional interfaces can be provisioned after the OLT has been added to Panorama. Panorama enables configuration of all OLT elements, including some items that are not configurable from the CLI. The goal of turnup is to initialize the system such that Panorama can be used to complete configuration.

AID of Uplink Interface

Accept the system default (NET1). A Link Aggregate Group (LAG) or uplink interface can have the values NET1..NET12 on the OLT.

Number of Ports

The number of ports to be bundled in the uplink LAG. Up to eight(8) 1G ports or four(4) 10G ports are allowed. Only uplinks of the same speed can be included in a LAG.

Enable Link Aggregation Control Protocol

Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) is the standard protocol used to manage the ports in a LAG. The LACP configuration for a LAG must be consistent between both participants(OLT and connected upstream switch). If only one side has LACP enabled, the LAG will be disabled and traffic will not flow. LACP is disabled by default.

Element Management Traffic Tagging

Select tagged(2) or untagged(1). It is recommended that management traffic be tagged to isolate it from untagged user traffic. Mixing of management and user traffic can pose a real security risk. Separating them ensures that users cannot access the management interface. This setting must agree with the upstream switch setting for the management VLAN.

VLAN ID for Element management Communication

This specifies the VLAN ID for managing traffic between the OLT and Panorama.

VLAN Priority

Defines the 802.3P layer 2 priority bits for management packets. It is recommended that the default setting of 7 be used to ensure management traffic continues to flow even if the link becomes oversubscribed.

IP Stack Type to use

Select the IP stack type to use for managing traffic. The type selected must agree with the Panorama configuration. IP stack can be configured for IPv4, IPv6, or both. Both allow for both IPv4 and IPv6 access to the OLT for ssh, but the EMS can only use a single stack type at a time (IPv4 or IPv6).

Address

Enter the IPv4 address to be used by the OLT.

Network Mask

Enter the network mask for the OLT.

Default Gateway

Enter the default gateway IP address to be used by the OLT.

When the Wizard finishes gathering data, a summary is displayed for confirmation. To accept the configuration and perform the turnup, type Y at the prompt and press Enter. The turnup configuration will be applied and the OLT restarted if necessary.

Note: If the user makes a mistake during Turnup, enter N at this prompt and the wizard will terminate without applying the turnup data entered. You can then relaunch the wizard to correct any mistakes. The next attempt should be faster as the wizard will use the responses from the last execution as defaults in each prompt.

Once these steps have been completed, the OLT should be added to the Panorama EMS as defined in the next step "Add OLT to EMS".
