ONT Status

Use the following procedure to view the ONT Status:

  1. Click the ONT Status tab to view the status and statistical data.

  2. Refer to the field descriptions in the table below.

Field

Description

ONT Status

Displays the current status of this ONT.

Last Event

Displays the last event that has occurred on this ONT.

Traffic Statistics

Bytes

Displays the number of bytes received (Received) and transmitted (Transmit) on the selected ONT.

Frames

Displays the number of frames received (Received) and transmitted (Transmit) on the selected ONT.

BIP8 Errors

Downstream – Number of frames received with bit interleaved parity 8 (BIP8) errors on the ONT end of the ONT optical link.

Upstream – Number of frames received with BIP8 errors on the GPON port end of the ONT optical link.

BIP8 Error Rate

Downstream – BIP8 error rate on the ONT end of the ONT optical link. Upstream – BIP8 error rate on the GPON port end of the ONT optical link. Click Reset Displayed BIP8 Errors to reset the BIP8 Error Rate counters.

Power Statistics

Downstream Receive Optical Power

Downstream receive optical power in dBm.

  1. The table below describes each of the status codes that can be displayed in the Status Code field. The displayed code represents the current status of the selected ONT and a method of clearing the alarm, where appropriate.

    Status Code

    Meaning

    Troubleshooting

    MEA

Mismatch Equipment – Indicates that the type of actual ONT with the designated serial number does not match the provisioned ONT type.

Check provisioning to make sure that the provisioned ONT type and serial number match the actual ONT.

    ACTV

Active – Indicates that the ONT is operational.

    None

    INACT

Inactive – Indicates that the ONT is inactive (not provisioned).

    None or provision the ONT.

    OOR

Out of Range – Indicates that the selected ONT is out of range of the PON.

    Either:

    1. Remove excess fiber
    2. Move the ONT to a PON that can reach it or
    3. Use the increased reach PON setting

After correcting the range problem, manually set the ONT e-stop mode to “on”, then back to “off”.

    OOS

Out of Service – Indicates that the ONT is not communicating with the OLT.

Ensure that the ONT is powered up and the fiber connection is good.

    PREPROV

Pre-Provisioned – Indicates that the ONT has been provisioned but has not been detected on the PON since the last QOIU7 reboot.

Ensure that the ONT is powered up, and the fiber connection is good.

    ESTOPON

Emergency Stop On – Indicates that the ONT has been intentionally placed in a non-responsive state. This can be done automatically if:

    1. the ONT is out of range or
    2. the ONT is rapidly oscillating in and out of service.

Manually set the eStop mode to “on” and then back to “off”. If the ONT returns to estop automatically, cycle power on the ONT and try again. If the problem continues, replace the ONT.

  2. The table below provides a description of the code displayed in the Event Code field. The displayed code represents the last event that occurred on the selected ONT.

    Event Code

    Description

    Notes

ACTIVATED Occurs when the selected ONT becomes operational.
DEACTIVATED Occurs when communication with the selected ONT is lost.
UNKNOWNPASSWORD Occurs when activation of the selected ONT fails, due to an unknown ONT password. Abnormal ranging/activation failure.
KEYSYNCFAIL Occurs when the PON encryption key change sequence fails. Should continue operation with the current key, until the next key change cycle.
OOR Out of Range – Occurs when the selected ONT is detected to be beyond the range of the PON. ONT is automatically placed in e-stop mode.

    UNEXPECTED

Occurs when an unexpected serial number is detected.

    MEM

Message Error Message – Occurs when an unknown PLOAM message is received from the selected ONT.

Isolated occurrences probably due to transmission errors. Otherwise, abnormal ONT behavior.

    PROV

Occurs when the selected ONT is provisioned.

    SIGDEGRADE

Signal Degrade – Occurs when the Bit Error Rate (BER) exceeds the provisioned signal degrade threshold.

    Indicates poor optical signal quality.

    WINDOWSDRIFT

Occurs when the range to the selected ONT drifts out of a small window centered on the original range value.

Should cause an automatic re-range of the ONT.

    REMERRIND

Remote Error Indicator – Occurs when the selected ONT reports a non-zero value for the bit interleaved parity (BIP) error count.

    Indicates poor optical signal quality.

    DEACTIVATEFAIL

Occurs if the selected ONT fails to respond to the deactivation command.

    Abnormal ONT behavior.

    MACTXVRFAIL

    MAC Transceiver Failure

Transceiver overheating or other hardware failure.

    SUSFIBERBREAK

Suspected Fiber Break – Occurs when communication is lost with all ONTs on the PON.

    RANGETIMEOUT

Occurs when an attempt to activate the selected ONT fails due to a timeout.

    Abnormal ranging/activation failure
