Adding ONT to EMS

An ONT must be added to the EMS from the EMS GUI. This can be done in one of several ways:

  • Configuration via the Unexpected ONT menus
  • Manual Pre-configuration
  • Auto Configuration via Templates
  • Bulk configuration via Excel Files

Add Via Unexpected ONT Menu

The unexpected ONT menu can be found by right-clicking at the OLT, OIU, or PON level and Selecting Unexpected ONT.

All ONTs that have not been accepted onto the PON will be shown in the dialog and each can be configured and accepted onto the PON. The following editable fields are present:

  • Configure (Y/N): Whether to configure the ONT. Selecting N will ignore that ONT and leave it in the unconfigured state. If the EMS has already put an N in this field, it is typically because the ONT already exists in the system and needs to be deleted from its previous location.
  • ONT ID: An unused ONT ID is suggested and can be overridden if desired with any available ID.
  • User Label: You can give a name or label to the ONT that can be used to indicate its location or how it is being used.

The Serial Number and PON AID are automatically populated.

Manual Pre-Configuration

The ONT can be pre-configured via the AddONT option of the EMS.

The intent is that the user would configure the ONT prior to installation and, upon installation, the unit would be automatically accepted and go into service without any further manual intervention.

From the Panorama GUI, select the correct PON and then right click and select Add ONT .

Once selected, the user will be prompted to select the ONT type, the ONT serial number, ONT ID and User Label for the ONT.

Auto Configuration and ONT Templates

The user can learn more about configuring ONTs via Auto-configuration and using Templates to define all the default settings for ONT configuration in the following Application Note:
