Description
Introduction
The Tellabs® ONT140C/140CL Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is part of the Tellabs 100 series of optical network terminals (ONT) for Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON).
The ONT140C/140C provides four (4) gigabit Ethernet connections and delivers up to 60W of remote power, supporting the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards; including Class-4 negotiations.
| Note: The ONT140C remote power to connected devices is controlled through a PoE Switch; remote power to connected devices on the ONT140CL does not require a PoE Switch. |
The ONT140C/140CL supports multiple mounting options. It can be integrated with office furniture, secured to a wall, mounted underneath a surface or just be freestanding.
The plenum rated ONT140C can be deployed with an optional plenum bracket to support mounting the ONT140C above ceilings and in other plenum spaces.
The ONT140C/140CL can be deployed with the Tellabs OLT1150/OLT1150E, OLT1134AC, FlexSym OLT1, FlexSym OLT2, FlexSym OLT6, FlexSym BOLT, and the FlexSym OLT-mini Plus optical line terminals.
ONT140C/140CL Differences
The Tellabs® ONT140CL Optical Network Terminal (ONT) has all the same features and look and feel as the ONT140C with the following exceptions:
- The buzzer was removed.
- The 140CL is no longer plenum rated and is marked with "Not Plenum Rated" see Figure 1.
- The ability to power the ONT from a PoE switch was removed.
- The 140CL can still be powered by a 48V power source on the RJ45 connector.

Security
Tellabs has implemented unique advanced security features to protect enterprise networks. The ONT140C/140C supports security across the optical distribution network and end-to-end over the OLAN system, such as encryption of traffic on the PON using the Advanced Encryption Standard AES-128 and Access Control Lists (ACL) at Layer 2 through 4 levels.
The ONT supports advanced dynamic assignment of services to a port via the use of Network Access Control (NAC) with fall back to a Guest VLAN. The ONT supports IEEE 802.1x port-based authentication and MAB. This prevents unauthorized access to ports and offers RADIUS authentication for users and distribution of policy to end users based on their login.
Connectors and Indicators
Connectors
The front face of the ONT140C/140CL has four (4) Gigabit Ethernet connectors (GE1-GE4):
