Security
Tellabs has implemented unique advanced security features to protect enterprise networks. The ONT140W supports security across the optical distribution network and end-to-end over the OLAN system, such as encryption of traffic on the PON using the Advanced Encryption Standard AES-128 and Access Control Lists (ACL) at Layer 2 through 4 levels.
The ONT supports advanced dynamic assignment of services to a port via the use of Network Access Control (NAC) with fall back to a Guest VLAN. The ONT supports IEEE 802.1x port-based authentication and MAB. This prevents unauthorized access to ports and offers RADIUS authentication for users and distribution of policy to end users based on their login.
Components
The ONT140W is modular in design so that its Power Module, ONT Module and Faceplate can be purchased and installed separately.

Power Module
The ONT140W Power Module contains:
- Internal power board
- 2-pin input power connector for -54 Vdc input
The ONT Power Module fits inside the wall and has a power socket for the 2-pin input power connector that is provided to power the ONT140W.
ONT Module
The ONT Module plugs into the ONT Power Module that powers the enclosed circuitry. The ONT module contains integrated fiber management and internalized power.
- 4 Ethernet port connectors
- 1 GPON connector
- Identification label for ONT serial number
Faceplate
The front faceplate cover fits over the ONT Module and provides visibility to the LEDs and access to the ports and reset button, located on the ONT Module. It hides the fiber connection on the ONT Module and has two identification slots used for labeling. The faceplate cover is mounted after both the ONT Power Module and the ONT Module are installed.
Connectors and Indicators
The ONT140W contains the ONT/PON uplink interfaces shown on the front view and the 2-pin power input connector socket and fiber exit point located on the rear view of the ONT.

LED Behavior
| LED | Indications | Comments | |
|---|---|---|---|
| PON | Dark | The LED Hold Time has expired, the ONT does not have power or the ONT is damaged. | |
| Red | No optical signal. | ||
| Red Blinking | Kernel and application software is being loaded | ||
| Green Blinking | The device is attempting to establish the PON connection. | ||
| Green | The PON is connected and working properly. | ||
| GE1-GE4 Ports | Dark | No activity or port is admin down | |
| Green | Link is active but idle. PoE is provided, if requested. | ||
| Green Blink | Activity on the link. PoE is provided, if requested | ||

Manual Controls and Switches
The ONT140W has only one user-operable control; the Reset Button. The Reset Button is accessible through a small hole on the front face of the unit. The reset button can be used to perform the following:
- Reboot: Pressing and holding the Reset Button for 5 to 10 seconds forces the ONT to reboot.
- Factory Reset: Pressing and holding the Reset Button for more than 30 seconds, resets the ONT to factory defaults, clearing any persistent OMCI data.
