PPG Management
Passive Optical Network (PON) Protection Groups (PPGs) support applications where equipment and/or fiber protection to the ONT is required utilizing a 2:32 splitter. With a 2:32 splitter, software is used to control which PON is actively sourcing light.
The PONs can be located in the same OLT or different OLTs, allowing for true disaster protection. Since the solution leverages Layer 1 technology, the switchover time is estimated to be in the order of 30-60 seconds.
Panorama PON supports Layer 1 PON Optical Protection in a revertive switch arrangement; There is a preferred link that is always available. The system always switches back to the Primary link, whenever it is available.
PON Protection Groups are supported between Primary and Secondary PONs:
- on the same QOIU
- on different QOIUs within the same OLT and
- between PONs on different QOIUs in different OLTs
