Mirroring » PortMirroring
The port mirroring command enables the user to mirror traffic to an unused port (for traffic observation and analysis). The unused (target) port must be disabled (that is, the administrative state must be down). Only one port can be mirrored at a time. It works very similarly to flowmirroring except it does not support filters and just mirrors an entire traffic port or LAG to another port.
- Command - portmirroring; Mirrors traffic to the selected port.
- Action - Enable; Enables the portmirroring operation. <enable>
- Source Port - Port that is the target for mirroring traffic <i.e net8>
- Target Port - Insert desired filter; select from options <i.e. mds1-4-4>
- Traffic Direction - in/out/both <both>
- Command - Disable; Disables the portmirroring operation.
Enable Mirroring
To enable port mirroring, follow these steps:
- From the ESUx> command line, input port mirror enable and press Enter. The prompts will ask for a source port, a target port and an uplink direction.
ESUx> portMirroring enable <enter> Insert source port : _
-
Input the source port, and press Enter. Valid ESU source port entries are:
- NET1 to NET12 for UPLINK LAGs.
- The following prompt is displayed:
Insert source port : net8 Insert target port : mds1-1-4 <enter>
- Input the target port, and press Enter. Valid ESU source port entries are:
- MDS1-ESU<X>-1...MDS1-ESU<X>-6 where <X> = A or B for SFP uplinks on the active ESU faceplate.
- The following prompt is displayed:
Insert source port : net8 Insert target port : mds1-1-4 Insert traffic direction IN/OUT/BOTH [BOTH] : _both <enter>
- Input the traffic direction, and press Enter.
Valid ESU source port entries are:
- IN - All traffic coming into the source port is mirrored to the target port.
- OUT - All traffic going out of the source port is mirrored to the target port.
- BOTH - All traffic in both directions is mirrored from the source port to the target port. The system enables portmirroring for the designated target port.
- The following prompt is displayed:
ESUx> portmirroring enable Insert source port : net8 Insert target port : mds1-1-4 Insert traffic direction IN/OUT/BOTH [BOTH]: both Adding port mirroring ... ... operation completed successfully. ESUx> _

Note: Only one port can be mirrored at a time. If port mirroring has already been enabled, the system displays the following message: "Mirroring is already enabled. Disable it and please try it again"
Disable Mirroring
To disable portmirroring, follow these steps:
- From the ESUx> command line, input portmirroring disable and press Enter. The prompts will ask for a source port, a target port and an uplink direction.
