Power Over Ethernet Threshold
Description
Signaled when an ONT has been requested by Power over Ethernet (PoE) Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to provide more power than the provisioned threshold allows. The threshold is configured in the EMS via a system default and can be overridden for each ONT. This threshold is configured as a percentage of the total power available for that ONT type. This threshold is used to alert the user of the usage approaching the total capability of the ONT to supply power. If the CPE is attached and requests more power than is available, the ONT does not enable PoE on that port, resulting in downstream CPE being denied power.
The typical power provided by the PoE circuitry of the ONTs are:
- 72 watts on the ONT709GP when supported by AC power
Trouble Clearing
The probable causes of this alarm are:
- Too many high-power PoE devices attached: Too many devices may have been attached which sets off the alarm. One or more devices may be denied power if the ONT capacity has been exceeded. Move some devices to a different ONT.
- Threshold Too Low: The threshold for usage is by default set to 99%. Since it is user editable, it is possible that the threshold has been set artificially low. It may be necessary to raise the threshold level.
