Site Preparation
Application
The Tellabs OLT2 is for indoor use, only, in temperatures ranging from 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C) with internal power supply, from 14°F to 140°F (-10°C to 60°C) with network power supply, and with relative humidity ranging from 5% to 95% non-condensing.
Location Selection and Planning
The location of the OLT must take into account the space, power, and cabling requirements of the OLT and attached devices.
The fiber cable drop should be installed so that it is near the location selected for installing the OLT. Because fiber cables are typically not altered in the field, ensure that the cable is an appropriate length.
Facility Grounding
Prior to beginning the installation, ensure that the facility grounding system is installed in accordance with EIA/TIA-607 Grounding and Bonding Requirements for Telecommunications in Commercial Buildings, United States Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Bulletin 1751F-810, and/or local practices, as applicable.
Power Availability
The box Contains
- OLT2 - Optical Network Terminal unit (no power supply)
If multiple OLT2s are ordered, or optional accessories are ordered along with the OLT2, they may be packed in the same shipping container, or be shipped separately. The following table gives the OLT2 part numbers and accessories associated with the OLT2.
| Part Number | Description | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| 81.11C-OLT2-40 | FlexSym OLT2, 1RU, 2 GPON/XGS, 40G uplink | It includes the rack mount brackets and desktop rubber feet. |
| 81.11K-OLT2-RACK19 | OLT2 19" Rackmount Kit | One blank panel and connector bracket with hardware. |
| 81.11W-2W8M | Low Voltage Remote Power Cable | For network power systems. |
| 81.11P-PWIL150W | PWR IN LINE ADPT 54V, 2.8A NO CORD (C13) | 150W Power Supply |
| 81.11W-C13TYPB-3 | PWR AC CORD C13 TO TYPE B US | AC power cord |
| 81.11K BKONTPS 150 | PWR IN LINE ADPT Mounting Bracket | A snap-in power supply mounting bracket |
Powering Options
The OLT2 can be powered utilizing one of two methods and supports redundant power for both AC and DC options.
| Note: The AC is limited to 140W and the DC is only supported via a NEC Class 2-compliant 100W current limited power source. |
- AC powered using an 150W power supply
- Locally powered via 48V to 57V DC remote power with single NEC Class 2 (100VA Max) input per power rail.
Tellabs has many locally powered sites and can recommend the correct powering option for the number of ONTs and power requirements based on the amount of attached PoE devices. Local powered options do not require electricians for any of the wiring or installation.
Desktop Mount
Rubber feet are supplied to use as a desktop mount.
Wall Mounting
The OLT2 can be attached to a wall, or to some other surface using wall mounting brackets and screws. Fiber cable management guides are recommended to protect the fiber cable bend radius.
| Note: Make sure that the owner of the building or the owner of the individual unit or furniture is aware that holes will be drilled and screws and/or wall anchors will be used to mount the OLT to a wall or to furniture before beginning installation. |
Rack Mounting
When selecting the installation rack and its location, the following items should be considered as part of that selection:
- Elevated Operating Ambient - If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.
- Reduced Air Flow - Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
- Mechanical Loading - Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.
- Circuit Overloading - Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
- Reliable Earthing - Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g., use of power strips).
19" Rack Mounting
The OLT2 can be mounted as single or dual (81.11K-OLT2-RACK19) rack mount.
Single OLT2 Mounting
The single mounting uses a Blank Panel and a Connector bracket.

Dual OLT2 Mounting
The dual mounting uses a Connector Bracket.

Power Supply Mounting
The AC power supply can be wall mounted with a snap-in power supply mounting bracket when using the AC power supplies. This bracket can be mounted to the wall or the rack.

Tools
The following list of tools should cover most typical OLT2 installations:
- Screwdrivers or driver bits
- Screwdrivers or driver bits to fit the wood or machine screws, dry wall anchor screws, or masonry anchor screws that will be used in mounting the ONT to a wall or other surface
- Medium slot screwdriver
- Power drill and drill bits sized appropriately for screw pilot holes, and drywall and masonry anchor holes (sizes required will depend on fastener selection)
- Stripper/crimping tool for DC remote power installations and/or frame grounding.
- Digital multimeter with test leads (a DMM with only basic functions will do) to test power for DC remote power installations.
