Site Preparation
Installation Planning
The installation must seek to balance user preference with the environmental, power, and cabling requirements of the ONT and any subtending equipment. The following items need to be planned for prior to installing the ONT.
Physical Mounting Options
The ONT203W is designed to be installed into a wall, similar to how an AC wall outlet is installed. The ONT can be installed using a low-voltage wall mounting bracket or a utility box, depending on local building practices and customer preference. If a utility box is used, it should be a single gang box or a double gang box with a reducer plate.
Optical Fiber Location
When selecting the installation location, it is important to consider the location of the fiber cable drop. Because fiber cables are not typically spliced or terminated in the field, it is important that the cable is long enough to reach the ONT. It is better for the cable to be too long than for it to be too short by any amount. For this reason, there is normally excess fiber to manage after the connections have been made. Special care needs to be taken to store and protect this slack from accidental damage.
Environmental Requirements
The ONT203W operates in temperatures ranging from 32°~104°F (0°~40°C) with non-condensing relative humidity ranging from 5% to 85%.
Power Requirements
The ONT203W requires 48~56 VDC at up to a maximum of 1.38 amps (at full PoE load). This power is typically delivered by remote 54-volt bulk DC power supply. Power is connected to the ONT Power Module using a phoenix 2-pin 5.08mm pitch mount screw terminal block.
Tools and Supplies
The items listed below assume that the optical fiber cable drop (and remote bulk DC power cable, if used) are already installed.

The following list of tools are needed to install the ONT203W:
- Screwdrivers or driver bits to fit the wood or machine screws, dry wall anchor screws, or masonry anchor screws that will be used in mounting the ONT
- Drywall Saw
- Digital multimeter with test leads (a DMM with only basic functions will do)
- Optical Power Meter
- Fiber Optic Inspection Microscope
- Multipurpose fiber optic cleaning tool with bulkhead adapter
Supplies
The following list of supplies are needed to install the ONT203W (supplies are locally sourced):
- 3/4-inch drywall screws (4)
- 1-1/4-inch drywall screws (4)
- One of the following:
- Single Gang Low Voltage Wall Mounting Bracket
- Single Gang Utility Box (2" x 4")
- Dual Gang Utility Box (4" x 4") and Reducer Plate
