Replace a DC Rectifier Module

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

Observe and follow all ESD instructions while handling Tellabs plug-in equipment.

Danger  Caution! The Tellabs plug-in equipment uses semiconductor devices that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). Do not remove a plug-in from a protective packing box or equipment rack until the time of installation or replacement. To equalize the static charge on the plug-in, establish a body path to the ground using an ESD wrist strap connected to an ESD ground. [If storing or shipping the plug-in becomes necessary, place the plug-in in a conductive shipping box to prevent static buildup.]

Apply the following precautions:

  • Use grounded wrist straps, table mats, floor mats
  • Handle static-sensitive devices in the nonconductive areas
  • Place static-sensitive cards into an antistatic plastic bag
  • Use protective ESD-sensitive packing and shipping bags when returning repairable components

To Avoid Electrical Hazards

Warning

Caution:  Performing the following procedure may interrupt power to the loads if battery reserve is not sufficient.

  • The tasks should be performed in the order indicated.
  • Remove watches, rings, and other jewelry.
  • Prior to contacting any uninsulated surface or termination, use a voltmeter to verify that no voltage or the expected voltage is present.

Procedures

Use the following procedure to replace a DC Rectifier module.

Information Note: All rectifier connections are made when the rectifier is seated in the shelf.

  1. Connect an approved ESD grounding strap to the shelf.
  2. Release the rectifier latch by pressing the latch release button. The latch springs open (see below).

Figure 1: Releasing the Rectifier Latch

  1. Grasp the latch and firmly pull the rectifier from the shelf.
  2. Place the rectifier in an approved ESD container.
  3. Unpack and inspect the replacement rectifier for any damage. If any apparent damage is noted, notify the next level of support.
  4. Press the latch release button. The latch springs open (see Fig. 1).
  5. Slide the replacement rectifier into the shelf until the connector on the rear of the rectifier engages with the connector at the back of the rectifier slot on the shelf.
  6. Close the latch by pressing in on it (see Figure below).

Figure 2: Closing the Rectifier Latch

  1. Remove the ground wrist strap.
  2. The rectifier powers up, and the controller automatically configures the rectifier module.
