Replace the AC-DC Rectifier

This section provides basic instructions for removing and replacing an inoperable AC - DC rectifier from the Tellabs OLT1.

Use the following procedure to replace the AC-DC rectifier.

Remove the AC-DC Rectifier

If the rectifier Fault light displays RED, it indicates the rectifier is inoperable.

The rectifier should be shipped back to Tellabs® and a new rectifier will be sent to the customer’s site as a replacement. Follow the procedures below to remove the rectifier:

Information Note: The customer will purchase a new rectifier from Tellabs®. Contact the Tellabs Technical Assistance Center (TAC), for instructions.
  1. If the OLT1unit is already rack mounted, slide the unit forward a couple of inches or remove it from the rack to gain access to the faceplate screws.
  2. Locate the rectifier cover plate on the OLT1.
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the 4 screws (two on top and two on bottom) of the rectifier cover plate.
  4. Remove the rectifier cover plate.
  5. Loosen the right and left screws that hold the rectifier retractable handles in position.

6. Remove the rectifier from the slot.

7. If the rectifier is not going to be shipped back to Tellabs, dispose of the rectifier ac- cording to local practices or regulations.

Install the AC-DC Rectifier

When the customer receives a replacement rectifier, follow these procedures to install the new rectifier into the Tellabs OLT1.

  1. Locate the package containing the rectifier.
  2. Examine the package for any apparent damage. If damage is noted, contact Tellabs Technical Assistance Center for assistance and additional instructions.
  3. If no damage is noted, open the package and examine the rectifier for any apparent damage.
  4. If damage is noted, contact Tellabs Technical Assistance Center for assistance and additional instructions. Refer to Contacting Technical Support.
  5. If no damage is noted, remove the rectifier from the packaging.
  6. Pull both handles out to approximately 45 degrees, as shown in Figure 4, ready for installation.

Information Note: This may require the slackening and disengaging of the right and left screws that hold the handle in position.
  1. Locate the rectifier into the slot and actively push it all the way to the back until the power module connector and the locking mechanism engage.
  2. Observe the following rectifier activity.

  1. Power LED illuminates GREEN as the unit is initializing.
  2. Fan starts up.
    Information Note: The fan should turn counterclockwise, and air is pulled into the rectifier.
  1. When the rectifier has stabilized, in approximately 8 seconds, push the retractable handles in so that they are flush with the power module faceplate. This will fully engage and lock the power module into place.
  2. Using the Phillips screwdriver, tighten the two screws (one on each side) to hold the handles in the locked position.
  3. Locate the rectifier cover plate on the left side of the OLT1 faceplate.
  4. Replace the rectifier cover plate.
  5. Tighten the two screws on the top and the bottom of the rectifier cover plate.
