ONT Bulk Configuration

Video

Introduction

This procedure requires the creation of a Bulk Configuration file before the use of the Panorama PON Bulk Configuration routine.

Panorama PON includes a Bulk Configurations routine which enables users to quickly provision ONTs, bypassing the manual GUI ONT equipment provisioning and activation procedures.  This routine applies the user labels and will Create ONT based upon the input data.

The bulk configuration option is often useful during large scale turn up of a system to allow installers to define the locations of ONTs (using the ONT user label) and the installed serial number.

The bulk configuration feature supports the following functionality:

  • Creation of ONTs - Enables pre-creation of ONTs prior to their attachment to the system, or creation of ONTs that are already attached to the system but are currently "unexpected ONTs".  This is the exact equivalent of doing a create ONT in the GUI.
  • Addition of User Label - Allows assignment of the user label a specific ONT by either:
    • Serial Number - Assigns the specified user label to the ONT with the specified serial number.
    • Location - Assigns the specified user label to the ONT at a specific PON card Slot ID, PON ID and ONT ID.

Bulk Configuration

Create Bulk ONT Configuration File

A sample configuration file can be found at the location: TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrclientdataBulkConfigDataONT configuration sample input.csv

Use the following procedure to create a file to be utilized the Bulk ONT Configuration routine to either pre-provision ONTs or apply User labels to ONTs:

  1. To make a .csv file, use a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft® Excel on the Windows platform.
  2. Create a .csv input file, with the required columns that are documented below.

  3. The Fields required for Bulk Configuration, to be used in the .csv spreadsheet are described in the following table.

      Field

      Description

OLT IP Identifies the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the OLT.
Slot Identifies OIU slot in the OLT.
PON  Identifies PON Port on the QOIU (1-4) and OUI8 (1-8).
ONT ONT ID assigned to the ONT (ONT ID 1-64).
    ONT Type

Enter the ONT Type of the ONT to be added.  To obtain a list of the current ONT Types, go the Panorama PON EMS and use the Add ONT dropdown list to get a current list of supported ONT types.
    Serial Number

Serial number of the ONT, consisting of up to a four-letter manufacturer code, followed by eight hexadecimal (0 to F) characters.  The serial number of the ONT is found on a label on the ONT and also as a sticker on the ONT box.
ONT Label  Free-form text informational field.  This is often used to identify a location of an ONT or the user of this ONT.  ("Bldg A Camera", "Fred Flintstones Cube", "N2.259", etc.

Note 1: A maximum of 128 characters are allowed. Commas are not allowed. This information, if used, is displayed in the Common Tree..
Note 2: Spaces are allowed in the ONT Label, i.e., My ONT. When spaces are included, enclose the ONT Label in double-quotes, i.e., "My ONT".
Operation  There are three types of operations the EMS will conduct with ONT Bulk Configuration:
Create-ONT - will create a new ONT at the specified location with the type provided in ONT Type column and the Serial Number provided in the S/N column. Please note that the ONT Type has to be exactly the same as the type strings provided in the EMS drop-down when adding an ONT manually.
Label-Serial - will ONLY apply the user label in the ONT Label column to the ONT located by the Serial Number, the location columns and ONT Type are ignored. Note: The ONT has to be in the system.
Label-WithId - will ONLY apply the user label in the ONT label column to the ONT located by the three location columns, the ONT Type and S/N columns are ignored. Note: The ONT has to be in the system.
  4. When the Excel Bulk file has been created, save the file as CSV (Comma-Separated Value) format to the C:TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrclientdataBulkConfigData folder.
Information Note: The Panorama PON EMS will default to this folder when executing the EMS Bulk Provisioning routine.

Create Bulk UNI Configuration File

A sample configuration file can be found at the location: TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrclientdataBulkConfigDataONT configuration sample input.csv

Use the following procedure to create a file to be utilized the Bulk UNI Configuration routine to apply User labels to ONTs:

  1. To make a .csv file, use a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft® Excel on the Windows platform.
  2. Create a .csv input file, with the required columns that are documented below.

  3. The Fields required for Bulk UNI Configuration, to be used in the .csv spreadsheet are described in the following table.

      Field   Description
OLT IP Identifies the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the OLT.
Slot Identifies OIU slot in the OLT.
PON  Identifies PON Port on the QOIU (1-4) and OUI8 (1-8).
ONT ONT ID assigned to the ONT (ONT ID 1-64).
UNI Label The bulk function will ONLY apply the user label in the UNI Label column to the ONT located by three location columns, all other columns are ignored. Note: The ONT has to be in the system.

Free-form text informational field.

Summary

This straightforward procedure allows you to provision the OLT with one operation. However, since this procedure requires direct manipulation of the system configuration file, please use extreme caution when applying it. If you are not comfortable with making this change, please contact Tellabs TAC for assistance.
