Create Protection Group

Use the following procedure to create a PON Protection Group:

Note: Create the PON Protection Group first on the EMS prior to installing the fiber between the Secondary PON and the 2x32 Splitter.

 

The following table describes the options for creating a Protection Group (PPG).

Specify a name for this protection group.

Specify whether the group is to be enabled or disabled

Revertive

Causes the secondary to revert, or switch, back to the primary when the primary has recovered.

Default is Revertive.

Wait to Restore

\Minimum time before a restore from a PON switch, due to an in-service switch, occurs.

Range is 0 – 120 seconds. Default is 60 seconds.

Synch Channel VLAN ID (VID) Defines the VLAN used for the synchronization of the state between primary and secondary PON of the Protection Group.  
PON A Set as Primary  
OLT TID Select the Target Identifier (TID) of the PON A OLT. Select the OLT that is to be the PON A side of this protection group.
PON AID Select the Access IDentifier (AID) within the PON. Select the PON and Port that is to be the PON A side of this protection group.
PON B Set as Secondary  
OLT TID Select the Target Identifier (TID) of the PON B OLT. Select the OLT that is to be the PON B side of this protection group.
PON AID Select the Access IDentifier (AID) within the PON. Select the PON and Port that is to be the PON B side of this protection group.

 

The PPG Management screen displays the current status of the PPG.

  • Each column has filtering () options to narrow down access to a specific status parameter.
  • Pressing the plus (+) symbol will expand and display the PPG connections.

  1. To Create the PPG, select PPG Management in the Device Common Tree and click on the Create PPG button.

  2. Add a Name for the PPG and the VID number for the VLAN synchronization.
  3. Increase or decrease the Wait to Restore time with the up/down arrows.
  4. Select the PON A Primary OLT ID from the dropdown list.
  5. Select the PON A Primary PON ID from the dropdown list.
  6. Select the PON B Secondary OLT ID from the dropdown list.
  7. Select the PON B Secondary PON ID from the dropdown list.
  8. When finished, click on the Apply button.

 

Edit PPG

The editing function only gives access to the VID number and the PON B AID number.

  1. Click on the Edit icon to access the Create PPG display.

  2. Update the VID number and add the new PON AID location from the dropdown list.

  3. Click on the Apply button to update the PPG.

 

Delete PPG

  1. Click on the Delete icon to start the delete process.
  2. Click on the Yes button to delete the PPG.

 

Hide Columns

  1. Click on the Hide Columns button to select columns to hide.
