Using the EMS Scheduler

This document will explain the EMS Task Scheduler and how to use it.

EMS Scheduler Desription

With the release of the SR30.1 EMS, the Panorama EMS adds the capability to add scheduled tasks to the system.  This allows automation of the scheduling common tasks.  The Task Scheduler allows the creation of Schedules for:

  • OLT Backup
  • OLT Software Download
  • EMS Database Backup

EMS Schedule Creation

The Task Scheduler capability can be reached via the Tools Menu by selecting Tools--> Scheduler:

The Task Scheduler Dialog box will be displayed:

Note: By default an OLT backup task is created on the system for once every week to ensure that the OLTs data is protected.

Creating a New Task

A new task can be created via the Create Button:

Note: One time tasks, when completed, will disappear from the list.

Creating Recurring Tasks

When creating a scheduled task that recurs, there are additional options:

  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly
Create a Daily Task

When creating daily tasks, you can choose your interval such as every day or every 2 to 3 days, etc.
 

Create a Weekly Task

If the weekly option is selected, you can select the day(s) of the week you want to perform the backup.

Create a Monthly Task

When selecting the monthly option, the list of months and days of the month are displayed to allow the user to select the month(s) and day(s) to perform the backup.

Note: Tasks that are created and scheduled to run on a day that does not exist in every month (29th-31st), months will skipped.  It is important that you either a. choose the last day of the month option or b. choose a date of 1-30.

Creating an OLT Backup Schedule

The Task Scheduler can be used to create a backup schedule.

  • Task Name: Define a name for the Backup Task.
  • Task Type: Defines which task type to perform, one of OLT Backup, OLT SW Download, EMS Database Backup.
  • OLT(s): Select all OLTs, a single OLT, or use <Ctrl>-Click to select the list of OLTs to backup as a multi-click.
  • Start Time/Date: Defines the start time/date of the initial task execution.
  • Frequency:
    • One Time: Perform a single instance of the task.
    • Daily: Perform the task every Day at the time of day specified in the Start Time.
    • Weekly: Perform the task once every week
    • Monthly: Perform the task once per month on the same Day of the Month and same time of day as specified in the Start Time/Date.

Creating an OLT Software Download Task

The Task Scheduler can be used to create a one time schedule to download to the OLT.

  • Task Name: Define a name for the Software Download Task.
  • Task Type: Defines which task type to perform, one of OLT Backup, OLT SW Download, EMS Database Backup.
  • OLT(s): Select all OLTs, a single OLT, or use <Ctrl>-Click to select the list of OLTs using multi-click to perform a software download to.
  • Start Time/Date: Defines the start time/date of the initial task execution.
  • Download File: Browse to the location of the download file. It needs to have been installed on the computer previously. This allows unattended download of the software at the scheduled time.
  • Frequency: Software Download is always a one time task.

Creating an EMS Database Backup Task

The EMS Backup can be created using the New Task button:

  • Task Name: Define a name for the EMS Backup Task.
  • Task Type: Defines which task type to perform, one of OLT Backup, OLT SW Download, EMS Database Backup
  • Start Time/Date: Defines the start time/date of the initial task execution.
  • DB Username: Enter the database username that was created during the installation of the EMS.
  • DB Password: Enter the database password that was created during the installation of the EMS.
  • Frequency: The frequency of the EMS DB Backup task:
    • One Time
    • Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
