PON
The use of PON profiles allows the user to automatically provision Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) on a PON or PON port basis.
PON Profile Attributes
The following PON profile attributes are available for user editing.
ONT Management
- Discover Unexpected ONT - Specify whether to enable or disable the PON Unexpected ONT alarms and place the ONT into the Unexpected ONT list. ONTs might be quarantined if:
- Configured ONTs whose round trip delay drifts outside the window when the Range Lock is enabled and Auto Disable is disabled.
- An ONT arrives on the PON too many times in a short interval when Excessive Arrivals is enabled; but Auto Disable is disabled.
- Auto Configuration - Specify whether to enable or disable the auto configuration of ONTs. ONTs that arrive on the PON are automatically configured using profiles that have been configured for that ONT Type.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Enabled)
- Minimum ONT ID - Specify the minimum number of ONT IDs that the system is allowed to use and assign to the ONTs.
- Range: 1 - 32, (Default - 1)
- Maximum ONT ID - Specify the maximum number of ONT IDs that the system is allowed to use and assign to the ONTs.
- Range: 1 - 32, (Default - 32)
- Unexpected ONT Alarm - Specify whether to enable or disable the PON Unexpected ONT alarms and place the ONT into the Unexpected ONT list. ONTs might be quarantined if:
- Configured ONTs whose round-trip delay drifts outside the window when the Range Lock is enabled, and Auto Disable is disabled.
- Any ONT that arrives on the PON too many times in a short interval when Excessive Arrivals is enabled; but Auto-Disable is disabled.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Disabled)
- Excessive Arrival Violation - When enabled, issues an Auto ONT Disable when too many arrivals per minute occur. This causes a trigger if Auto-Disable is enabled and the ONT will be quarantined. Note: If Auto-Disable is disabled, there is no effect.
-
Enabled/Disabled (default - Enabled)
-
- (enable)Auto Conversion - Specify whether to enable, or disable, auto conversion of ONTs. When enabled, the system shall, upon detecting an ONT with the same serial number as a currently configured serial number on that PON AND of a different ONT type, the ONT is converted to the new type.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Disabled)
PON Configuration
- FEC (Transmit) - Forward Error Correction (FEC) is a technique used for controlling errors in data transmission over unreliable or noisy communication channels. Typically, this adds 3 dB to the PON SNR but lowers the data rate about 12% due to the overhead of the FEC redundancy rates.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Disabled)
- PON Type - Specifies PON type
- GPON|XGSPON, (default - GPON)
- Receive BER Fail Threshold (10^) - Defines the Bit Error Rate (BER) Failure threshold that causes the system to fail the link.
- Range: -8 to -3 (default -4)
- Receive BER Maint Threshold (10^) - Defines the BER Maintenance threshold that causes the system to require maintenance
- Range: -10 to -4 (default -6)
- Enable Path Protection - Enables detection of network path failure
- Enable|Disable (default - Disable)
- PON Reach - Specify the maximum PON reach for the PON.
- Range: 20 or 30 Km (default - 30Km)
Bandwidth Utilization
- TCA Integration Period - Specifies the PON Threshold Crossing Alarm (TCA) integration period.
- Range: 1 - 60 min (default - 1)
- TCA Periods to Monitor - Specifies the number of periods the TCA has to remain above the TCA for Set / Clear.
- Range: 1 - 60 (default - 3)
- Receive CIR alarm - Committed Information Rate (CIR), when enabled, generates an alarm when the sum of the committed rates (characterized by the sustained rates) exceeds the PON’s capacity.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Disabled)
- Receive CIR Threshold - Specifies the upstream CIR threshold that is configured on the PON before the CIR alarm is signaled.
- Range: 1 - 100% (default 100%)
- Receive EIR alarm - Committed Information Rate (CIR), when enabled, generates an alarm when the sum of the committed rates (characterized by the sustained rates) exceeds the PON’s capacity.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Disabled)
- Receive EIR Threshold - Specifies the EIR threshold configured on the downstream PON before the EIR alarm is signaled.
- Range: 1-100% (default 95%)
- Transmit CIR alarm - When enabled, it generates a CIR alarm when the PON bandwidth utilization in the downstream direction is exceeded.
- Enabled/Disable (default - Disabled)
- Transmit CIR Threshold - Specifies the downstream CIR bandwidth threshold configured on the PON before the CIR alarm is signaled.
- Range: 1 to 100 (default 100%)
- Transmit EIR alarm - When enabled, generates an EIR alarm when the maximum burst tolerance for connections on the downstream PON is exceeded.
- Enabled/Disabled (default - Disabled)
- Transmit EIR Threshold - Specifies the transmitted EIR threshold configured on the downstream PON before the EIR alarm is signaled.
- Range: 1 to 100 (default 95%)
Storm Control
Storm Control allows the OLT to monitor and control multicast and broadcast traffic and drop traffic of those types and drop those that are above the storm control thresholds. This preserves the network and allows more of the valid network traffic to flow.
This addresses issues with:
- Looped broadcasts consume all the network bandwidth
- Looped Multicast or overuse causing multicast to consume all or most of the bandwidth
- Limit the impact of DoS Attacks
Storm Control Thresholds
- Unknown Multicast Rate - Input rate threshold
- Range: 1 to 100% (default 50%)
- Broadcast Rate - Input rate threshold
- Range: 1 to 100% (default 10%)
