SIP UA Register - Timeout
Description
Indicates that the agent used for packet-based voice services is unable to register with the SIP registrar. This alarm is supported in both the Voice Gateway and SIP Softswitch modes. The SIP registrar collects the registrations of endpoints and keeps the relationship between the subscriber and the user agent IP address where that subscriber is located. Since the SIP registrar periodically polls the endpoints on a large system, it may take up to an hour for the registration to time out. The typical timeout on the VGW is 30 minutes and is usually detected within minutes of loss of connectivity.
Trouble Clearing
The probable causes of this alarm are:
- Incorrect Host Config on ONT in VGW mode: The Host Config on the ONT defines an IP, Netmask, and Gateway addresses for communications with the VGW or Softswitch, as shown on the following screen. Ensure that the IP, Netmask, and Gateway addresses are properly set. If Auto Assignment of IP addresses is being used, go to the IP POOL GUI screen on the EMS and ensure that the settings are correct. This problem typically only affects one NE (if Auto Assignment of IPs is being used) or a single ONT, if manual IP address assignment is being used. The host configuration screen is shown below:

- Network Down: Register Timeout indicates the registrar or VGW cannot be reached. It is possible that the network is down preventing communication between the ONT and the registrar/VGW. Attempt to ping both the ONT and the registrar/VGW to ensure that communications to both work. This typically can be done from the EMS computer as it must have a NIC on the voice VLAN.
- VGW / Softswitch down: It is possible that the registrar or VGW is down and not answering the registration requests. VGW status can be checked from the EMS GUI and by checking EMS alarms for the VGW.
