Prerequisites for Installation

General Information

Pay special attention to the information in these alerts.

Alert! Prior to starting the installation of the Panorama PON EMS Server, the Windows Server platform should have all Microsoft Windows Updates installed. This may require performing the Windows Update process several times until ALL updates have been downloaded and installed.

  The Windows Update process is simple, but time-consuming:

• Search for and install updates. Restart the machine.
• Repeat until no more updates are found.

  Alert! The default Oracle, Postgres and Panorama PON EMS installation directories are: C:oracle, c:postgres and C:TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgr, respectively. If the default directories are not used (not recommended), be certain that Oracle is not installed in the same root directory tree as Panorama PON EMS.

This section describes the prerequisites that must be met before installing Panorama PON EMS on a Windows-based server:

• If using an Oracle database, the database must be installed prior to installing Panorama PON EMS for Server and Client. See Oracle Installations for instructions on installing the Oracle database.

  Note: If using a hardened Oracle server for a DoD deployment, create a separate disk partition prior to installing Oracle. See Operating System Hardening.

Review and verify the hardware and software requirements. (See Panorama OLAN Manager Datasheet).

• Remove the following environment variables, if present using the procedure in the next section.
  • If there is a PERL5LIB environment variable set, delete it.
  • If there is a _JAVA_OPTIONS environment variable set, delete it.

    Note: Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files will be installed during the initial installation of the Panorama PON EMS.

Removing Environment Variables

To remove an environmental variable, follow these steps:

1. Select Start » Control Panel » System and Security » System » Advanced system settings » Environment Variables.
2. Scroll through the System Variables. If PERL5LIB or _JAVA_OPTIONS are listed, select them and click Delete.
3. Click the OK button to close the Environment Variables screen.
4. Click the OK button to close the System Properties screen.
5. Close the Windows Control Panel.

Update Microsoft Windows
