Interactive Postgres
This procedure performs a Panorama server database backup. This action typically takes about 10 minutes or less.
- It is good practice to ensure that backups are then moved to storage off the EMS machine to ensure that they are available in the event of any machine failure.
- No further configuration changes should be made until after the upgrade is complete so that the backup will reflect the full system configuration.

Note: As a precaution, it is recommended that a copy of the Panorama PON EMS database backup be stored in a remote location so it will be available for disaster recovery. (See Disaster Recovery Procedures.)
The latest backup files may not be available if not stored at a remote location. i.e. On-site backups may be destroyed by the disaster. The default Windows Server PON database backup location is:C:TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrserverbackupfilesThe default NE backup folder is:C:TellabsPanrormaPONbbmgrserverdataFastBackupRestoreSubSystembackup
To backup the PostgresSQL database files on Windows, follow these steps:
- Login to the computer as the local Windows OS user emsadmin.
- On the Windows desktop, type Command in the Search window. Select the Command Prompt Icon. Right-click on Command Prompt icon and select Run as administrator.

- A User Account Control Prompt appears. Click the Yes button to continue.
- The Administrator: Command Prompt appears.

Note: Do not close the Administrator Command Prompt window until explicitly instructed to do so or when instructed to perform a reboot or restart of the server.
- In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, enter the following command to navigate to the Panorama PON EMS server folder.
C:Tellabs> cd C:TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrserver
-
To back up the PostgresSQL database, type the following command, and press Enter.
TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrserver>backupems.

- This is the first backup of the Panorama PON EMS database for Postgres on this server. Continue with these steps.
- This is not the first backup and the maximum number of backups has not been performed (the max_backups value has not been met). Go to Step 24.
- The maximum number of backups has been performed (max_backups value has been reached), go to Step 21.

Note: The number of backup files that can be maintained is dependent on the amount of available storage space on the local system and the size of the backup file set. It is advisable to perform the initial backup and then analyze the amount of space required and the amount of available free space.
- The backup properties file, PON_BackupRestore.properties, is located at c:TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrserver. This file can be manually edited using an ASCII text editor (such as Notepad) to change the max_backups= value.
- The following messages and prompts are displayed:

- Continue with the backup process.

Note: As part of the backup process, the file 20yymmddhhmmss.info is created. It gives a summary of the status of the backup. A folder named 20yymmddhhmm.11XX is also created. It contains several sub-folders that hold files with additional information about the backup. These are in the C:TellabsPanoramaPONbbmgrserverbackupfiles directory. The 20yymmddhhmm.DMP file is the backup data. - Messages similar to the following are displayed:

- EMS is backed up.

Note: As a final reminder, it is recommended that a copy of the Panorama PON EMS database backup be stored in a remote location so it will be available for disaster recovery. (See Disaster Recovery Procedures.) The latest backup files may not be available if not stored at a remote location. i.e. On-site backups may be destroyed by the disaster.
