Definitions
POTS - Plain Old Telephone Service, traditional land line service served over copper to customers homes.
IP-POTS - A Tellabs voice card providing Analog voice conversion of 6 voice lines directly to SIP-based voice over IP. This is transparent to existing analog customers.
LET - Local Exchange Terminal. The Tellabs 1000 can be co-located within the CO or Central Office. In those use cases, it would use a LET terminal to deploy the services. Up to 8 shelves can be deployed within the LET, one primary shelf and up to 7 expansion shelves. The LET is also used to distribute TDM bandwidth to RST Shelves. Please note that if IP-POTS is deployed in the CO, an RPSU is needed to provide ringing. Traffic from up to 32 RSTs can home into a single LET shelf.
NMA - Network Maintenance and Alarms. A TL1 based system for reporting alarms from Network elements into Operators trouble ticketing systems. Allows for proper surveillance and reporting of network element faults.
OPS/INE - Operations Provisioning System / Intelligent Network Element. This is the Telcordia Operation Support System that does the configuration of network elements.
RST - Remote Subscriber Terminal. These are Tellabs 1000 shelves located in cabinets out in the field and home off of a LET. Typically, if voice is deployed at a remote location, it will use an RST and will home off of a LET within the CO. Up to 32 RSTs can be homed off a single LET.
RTP - Real Time Protocol, a protocol used for sending packetized voice between two endpoints.
SRTP - Secure Real Time Protocol, a protocol for sending encrypted packetized voice between two endpoints.
SBC - Session Border Controller, device that typically sits at the border between internal and external networks and provides a host of security and other functions for the network border. SIP registration is often to an SBC or SIP proxy.
SIP - Session Initiation Protocol, the control protocol used for setting up and negotiating SIP based calls.
Terminal - One LET or RST with one primary shelf and up to 7 expansion shelves.
TIRKS - Trunk Integrated Record Keeping System. The system charged with keeping track of all of the facilities and trunks within the field.
