Description
The Tellabs IP-POTS card is a 6-line card that converts Analog lines to SIP VoIP call appearances. It allows the conversion of existing analog pairs into SIP VoIP lines, completely removing them from the TDM infrastructure and registering them directly with the service provider Switch or SBC. This allows complete elimination of all TDM infrastructure related to POTs at a site. Since exactly the same service is provided to the TDM customer both before and after the conversion, the customer sees no difference in their POTS service.

Since the Analog side of the card preserves the existing serving area with the same 1830Ω maximum loop length, the card can be utilized wherever there previously was a DLC, remote Switch, or CO based switch. The card in conjunction with the SIP based Switch is able to preserve almost all standard class services transparently to existing users.
The card works in existing Tellabs 1000 DMAX shelves and so can also be used to convert existing DLC installations directly to SIP based voice over IP.

Each IP-POTS card supports up to 6 lines of POTs service. Traditional POTs service, Fax, or Modems can be supported by the IP-POTS card.
The traffic coming to/from the TELLABS 1000 shelf is via a standard gigabit Ethernet Uplink provided by a T1000 GigE card somewhere within the T1000 network.

A single GigE can easily support a full 7 expansion shelves of IP-POTS cards (up to 132 POTS lines per shelf, 924 max POTS lines per terminal). This can be carried over any service provider network back to the provider edge, where it can be connected to the SBC and gain access to the Softswitch or IMS network. The GigE card can be placed either at the RST or the LET if optical transport between the LET and RST is supported.
