Logging On and Off the Client

Information Note: It is assumed that the Panorama PON hardware and software are already installed on the Windows Server platform. The subsequent sections refer to the menu options and functions available to the user. For information about system requirements and installing hardware and software, refer to the Panorama PON EMS System Administrator Guide.
  1. Is this the initial logon following installation?
    • YES, the Agent Directory dialog displays, go to Step 2
    • NO, the Logon dialog displays, go to Step 4
  2. In the Agent Directory dialog, enter the server hostname or Internet Protocol (IP) address in the Host (refer to Table 1)
    • The Host and Port values are automatically saved to a system file on the client computer.
    • The Agent Directory dialog does not appear for future logons.

Field Description
Host The local host IP address is pre-filled with the hostname of the current client platform. Enter the server directory hostname or IP address.

Note: If a hostname that represents an IP address is entered, the hostname must reside in the host file on the local system, or the machine must obtain its naming conversion from a Domain Name System (DNS).

Port Port number is the default Remote Method Invocation (RMI) port for the server. The server listens on port 7099 for Windows.
  1. In the Agent Directory dialog, enter the port that the client is to use to access the server (refer to Table 1) and click on the Ok button 
  2. Another server can be setup using the Server Directory option under File (See Server Directory for further instructions).
  3. In the Logon dialog, enter the User ID and Password required to access the server and click on the Ok button.
     
    Information Note: If the system administrator has configured a logon message, the dialog is larger than the above example. The logon message appears in an expanded area above the Agent field.

Field Description
Agent Reflects the server host name set in Step 2.
User ID Enter the user identification as assigned by the system administrator. Contact the system administrator, if necessary.
Password

Enter the password (assigned by the system administrator on a new account). The password must meet all the following requirements:

  • Passwords must contain at least one letter, one number, and one special character. The special character can be any printable character (for example, ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ +).
  • Admin user account passwords must contain 8 to 12 characters.
  • Non-admin user account passwords must contain 6 to 12 characters.
  • The password is not case-sensitive.
  • Each user may change his/her own password as often as necessary.
  • EMS maintains a history of used passwords. A password cannot be reused for at least five (5) password changes.

 

  1. If this is a new user account, of if the account password has expired or was reset, a password expiration dialog is displayed.  Click on the Ok button.
  2. In the Change Password dialog, enter the new password and confirm it in the confirm password. The new password must comply with the password requirements described in Table 2. Click on the Ok button.
  3. If all password requirements are met, the EMS changes the password and displays a confirmation dialog box. Click on the Ok button.

Upon successful logon, the Panorama PON main window is displayed. If the logon was not successful, an error will display. Contact your systems administrator for support.

Information Note: When a login session has been inactive for 15 minutes (i.e.: no keyboard/mouse activity), the application will lock the session and display the Unlock Session dialog box. Enter your password and click OK to unlock the session. The unlock session will stay active for one (1) hour, after which the session will be automatically logged off.

Logging Off the Client

Use the following procedure to log off a Panorama PON client session.

 

  1. To log off the client, click the Logoff button () in the toolbar, or select File > Logoff (ALT+F, O) from the Main Menu bar.
  2. When the logoff completes, the main window remains with no OLTs available and the icons in the Application View Bar are grayed out as shown below.
     
     
    Information Note: To shut down the EMS client, select File > Exit (ALT+F,X) from the Main Menu.
