Max MACs Violation
Description
Max MACs Violation occurs when the number of MACs configured to be allowed on the port is exceeded. This alarm is triggered when the Max MAC Violation is set in the port profile, and Auto Disable in the NAC profile is set.
Max Macs violation can happen in several use cases:
- When in N:N Mode and the max MACs configured within an ACL is exceeded.
- When in N:N and the Port Profile's Max MAC is set and has been exceeded.
The MAC that exceeded the limit will be listed in the additional text of the alarm.
Trouble Clearing
Max MACs indicates that more MACs are present than the policy configured on the system has defined. You should use the port indicated in the alarm and locate the additional MAC that has appeared on the port and remove that device from the network.
Sometimes the MAC MACs on the ONT port are set too low to accommodate the attached Wi-Fi clients. Ensure that the max macs are set properly on the port to accommodate the clients.
The Forwarding Database in the switch view can help see all the MACs on a given port.
Entering a filter with the port's AID will filter all MACs currently learned on that port:
