Overview

This chapter explains how to install the Panorama Passive Optical Network Element Management System (Panorama PON EMS) on Microsoft Windows platforms.

This software release provides two database options:

  1. Postgres OR
  2. Oracle.

Postgres is the default database product chosen during installation and will be installed and used unless Oracle has already been pre-installed. However, if Oracle is to be the database product, it must be installed first and then Panorama PON EMS for Server and Client must be installed afterward.

Information Alert! Panorama PON EMS must be able to create directories at the root level. i.e. This user must be able to create folders at C:, such as C:Tellabs.

The installer has three options, as illustrated in the Choose Install Set dialog below:

  1. Oracle Server invokes utilities that facilitate the installation of Oracle. Select Oracle Server when the Panorama PON Installer comes up.  You must have the Oracle software available and is separately purchased.  After Oracle has been installed, the Panorama PON EMS installer must be invoked again to install the Panorama PON EMS Server and Client for use with Oracle.
  2. Panorama PON Client installs a GUI client that can connect to a remote Panorama PON Server to manage Network Elements (NEs).  Remote users needing access to the Panorama PON Server to manage the system should select the Panorama PON Client.
Information Note: If Oracle 11g, or above, is required for a hardened deployment, use the installation software and guide for the 29.1 version, or above, of Panorama PON EMS.
  1. Panorama PON Server and Client installs both the server and client on a single computer.  This is recommended for all server installations.

  2. Before beginning the Panorama PON Server and Client installation, review and confirm that the hardware and software requirements for the respective platform have been met. (See Windows Platforms).
  3. Verify that all the appropriate prerequisites have been satisfied. (See Installation Prerequisites.)
