Replace a DC Rectifier Controller Module

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

Observe and follow all ESD instructions while handling Tellabs plug-in equipment.

Danger  Caution! The Tellabs plug-in equipment uses semiconductor devices that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). Do not remove a plug-in from a protective packing box or equipment rack until the time of installation or replacement. To equalize the static charge on the plug-in, establish a body path to the ground using an ESD wrist strap connected to an ESD ground. [If storing or shipping the plug-in becomes necessary, place the plug-in in a conductive shipping box to prevent static buildup.]

Apply the following precautions:

  • Use grounded wrist straps, table mats, floor mats
  • Handle static-sensitive devices in the nonconductive areas
  • Place static-sensitive cards into an antistatic plastic bag
  • Use protective ESD-sensitive packing and shipping bags when returning repairable components

To Avoid Electrical Hazards

Warning

Caution:  Performing the following procedure may interrupt power to the loads if battery reserve is not sufficient.

  • The tasks should be performed in the order indicated.
  • Remove watches, rings, and other jewelry.
  • Prior to contacting any uninsulated surface or termination, use a voltmeter to verify that no voltage or the expected voltage is present.

Procedure

Use the following procedure to replace the controller module.

  1. Connect an approved ESD grounding strap to the shelf.
    1. Remove the controller faceplate by inserting a small flat-bladed screwdriver into the middle of the top edge of the faceplate to release the latch securing the faceplate to the shelf (see Figure 1).

Figure 1: Removing the Controller Faceplate

  1. Swing the faceplate down and disconnect the display cable from the controller. Place the faceplate aside.
  2. Tag and remove any temperature probes connected to T1, T2, and/or T3.
  3. Tag and remove the alarm cable.

    Figure 2:  Controller Installation

  1. Place the controller in an approved ESD container.
  2. Unpack and inspect the replacement controller for any damage. If any apparent damage is noted, notify the next level of support.
  3. Slide the controller partially into the shelf (see Fig. 2).
  4. Reinstall the alarm cable and temperature probes removed in Step 5 and Step 4, respectively.
  5. Slide the controller fully into the slot until it is fully seated in the connector on the rear of the shelf.
  6. Secure the controller to the shelf by tightening the mounting screw.
  7. Connect the display cable to the connector on the controller (see Figure 1).
Warning Caution 1: Ensure the proper keying relationship between the cable and connector.

Warning Caution 2: Carefully dress the display cable when attaching it to the shelf to ensure the cable does not get pinched.
  8. Insert the tab on the bottom of the faceplate into the slot on the bottom of the controller housing (see Figure 1).
Warning Caution: Use care when installing the faceplate to not damage the top tab. Use a screwdriver and apply downward pressure on the tab until it snaps into the shelf.
  9. Push the display faceplate onto the shelf until the latch on the top of the controller housing catches.
