Replace a DC Rectifier Controller Module
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
Observe and follow all ESD instructions while handling Tellabs plug-in equipment.
| Caution! The Tellabs plug-in equipment uses semiconductor devices that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). Do not remove a plug-in from a protective packing box or equipment rack until the time of installation or replacement. To equalize the static charge on the plug-in, establish a body path to the ground using an ESD wrist strap connected to an ESD ground. [If storing or shipping the plug-in becomes necessary, place the plug-in in a conductive shipping box to prevent static buildup.] |
Apply the following precautions:
- Use grounded wrist straps, table mats, floor mats
- Handle static-sensitive devices in the nonconductive areas
- Place static-sensitive cards into an antistatic plastic bag
- Use protective ESD-sensitive packing and shipping bags when returning repairable components
To Avoid Electrical Hazards
|
Caution: Performing the following procedure may interrupt power to the loads if battery reserve is not sufficient. |
- The tasks should be performed in the order indicated.
- Remove watches, rings, and other jewelry.
- Prior to contacting any uninsulated surface or termination, use a voltmeter to verify that no voltage or the expected voltage is present.
Procedure
Use the following procedure to replace the controller module.
- Connect an approved ESD grounding strap to the shelf.
- Swing the faceplate down and disconnect the display cable from the controller. Place the faceplate aside.
- Tag and remove any temperature probes connected to T1, T2, and/or T3.
- Tag and remove the alarm cable.
Figure 2: Controller Installation

- Place the controller in an approved ESD container.
- Unpack and inspect the replacement controller for any damage. If any apparent damage is noted, notify the next level of support.
- Slide the controller partially into the shelf (see Fig. 2).
- Reinstall the alarm cable and temperature probes removed in Step 5 and Step 4, respectively.
- Slide the controller fully into the slot until it is fully seated in the connector on the rear of the shelf.
- Secure the controller to the shelf by tightening the mounting screw.
- Connect the display cable to the connector on the controller (see Figure 1).

Caution 1: Ensure the proper keying relationship between the cable and connector.
Caution 2: Carefully dress the display cable when attaching it to the shelf to ensure the cable does not get pinched. - Insert the tab on the bottom of the faceplate into the slot on the bottom of the controller housing (see Figure 1).

Caution: Use care when installing the faceplate to not damage the top tab. Use a screwdriver and apply downward pressure on the tab until it snaps into the shelf. - Push the display faceplate onto the shelf until the latch on the top of the controller housing catches.
