Configure the Primary Network Interface using Windows Server

To configure the primary network interface for OLT management using Windows Server, follow these steps:

  1. Select Start » Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. In the left column under Network and Internet, click on View network status and tasks.


     
  1. The Network and Sharing Center window appears. Click on Ethernet to view your active networks that are associated with the primary NIC. It is generally the one on top.


     
  1. The Local Area Connection Status or Ethernet Status dialog appears. Click the Properties button.


     
  2. The Ethernet Properties dialog is displayed; select the Networking tab.


     
  3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click the Properties button.
  4. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog is displayed. Verify that the IP address is the primary or management IP address for the network. This is the one that will handle data.

  2. Click the Advanced button. The Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog is displayed. 
     
    Information Note: Set the Interface metric to 1 for the primary interface connection only! All other connections should be set to a unique number greater than 1.

     
  1. Uncheck Automatic metric and enter a 1 in the Interface metric field. Click the OK button.
  2. Click the OK button on the IPv4 Properties dialog. Click the Close button on the Ethernet Properties dialog. Click the Close button on the Ethernet Status dialog. Close the Control Panel.
  1. Repeat Step 1 through Step 10 for any other network interface cards on the system. 
    Information Note: The Interface metric on additional network interface cards will be set to a unique number > 1
