Considerations
Before performing a backup on the Panorama PON EMS server, consider the following:
- When working with a remote Oracle database installation where the Panorama PON EMS server is installed on a different machine than the Oracle server, the Oracle database must be up and running. i.e. The user must be able to communicate with Oracle from the Panorama PON EMS server platform.
- The use of the backupems and restoreems commands on remote platforms is not supported. They must be executed on the server machine.
- Not all information regarding a specific network element is actually stored on the network element. For example, traffic profile names are stored only on the Panorama PON EMS server. Depending on the circumstances of the backup or restore, this information may be lost. This is why it is important to back up both the EMS and the OLTs. Contact Tellabs Technical Services for more information. (See Contacting Technical Support).
- When backing up the Panorama PON EMS database, the system manages the information as a complete set containing information on all network elements rather than individual network elements. Any network element information created or updated since the last backup is not available.
- When backing up the Panorama PON EMS or OLT, it is recommended that the backups either be to a remote disk, or be moved to offsite storage to ensure that they are preserved in the case of a Panorama PON Server Hardware failure.
- When restoring the Panorama PON EMS database, the network elements are automatically re-discovered.
- For more information on using the EMS Scheduler, see Automated Backups.
