Upgrading Panorama PON EMS

Pre-Upgrade steps are non-service affecting steps that will prepare the system for an upgrade. Upgrades are often scheduled for a maintenance window, but all these preliminary steps can be performed during normal business hours to decrease the size of the maintenance window and prepare the system for backups and other.

Information Note: Pre-upgrade steps are required in all upgrades, with/without PPGs.
  1. Upgrade EMS: Perform a Upgrade to the Panorama Server Software, this action typically takes approximately 45 minutes. Upgrade the EMS utilizing the Upgrade EMS procedure.
    • It is good practice to ensure that the new software release is compatible with the existing OLT release to ensure that it will continue talking to the OLTs after upgrade.
  2. Backup OLTs: Perform a backup all OLTs, this action typically takes about 1-2 minutes per OLT. Backup the OLTS utilizing the Backup OLT Database procedure.
Information Note: For PPG based systems ensure both OLTs are backed up.
    • It is good practice to ensure that backups are copied off of the machine to protect them in the event of any machine failure.
  3. Stage the OLT software on the EMS: Stage the OLT software utilizing the Stage OLT Software procedure.
  4. Download OLT Software: Perform a Manual Software Download to all OLTs. Software downloads vary, depending on the system loading, and can take as much as 3 hours. Download the OLT software utilizing the Download OLT software procedure.
Information Note: Multiple downloads can be in progress simultaneously. Since they are non-service affecting, these can be done at any convenient time to pre-stage the software.
  5. Verify all Downloads complete.
